let them have all the fun they want. >> so hugh hewitt, what does that measure on the hugh hewitt hy? >> he's talking about syria, libya and refugee camps where people passed through the isis libya created by hillary clinton to congregate in libya and greece and talking about not bringing them to the united states and i believe that will resonate with the american people unless and until there are ways of vetting people. i do believe there are lots of syrians that could come here if they are properly vetted and we know where they are. there is a realistic problem when the infrastructure of syria is destroyed and libya is isis out posts, it's very hard to accept refugees without having danger come with them. brian, i don't know if the control room has them. the inducing portion of the speech for the left is when donald trump sat down and said i'm going to consult with the national rifle association on policies to keep us safe. that's going to cause strokes across the united states but it does lay open the difference betwn the republican approach to international security and domestic

so when you hear a radio host like hugh hewitt saying we need an alternative, what happens? i mean, it is a little late to that game. >> you know, look, i recognize that. i would say this, though. record number of people favored trump talking people record number of people voted for him. a record number of people voted against him. there was a huge swath of the party that did not support donald trump. i think the idea of delegates should be able to vote their conscience. if he doesn't respect the constitution, the rule of law, the platform that said racist things, if they don't want to rubber stamp him, they should have the right. your point is valid, the overwhelmingly likelihood is it will be trump and clinton. if you have conservative vals, you can take a pass on the election, and we can be a check on hillary clinton for four years, until we put a real qualified person of character and a conservative up to beat her. >> john, last word. >> yeah, that's not going to be the case this choice here is between donald trump and hillary clinton.

joining me now political analyst and host of the hugh hewitt show. let's get started here. what's your take on what donald trump said yesterday directed at the gop leadership? >> there's always friction between party leadership and nominee. it happened with romney and mccain and always happens. but the truth is that both need each other. the finest hour donald trump had when he testified about the u.n. remodeling a few years ago. the senators brought him in because donald trump knew about skyscrapers and remodeling. he was fascinating and completely captivating to watch because he had expertise. people like mcconnell and paul ryan have great expertise in winning elections as do people who have run successful national campaigns before. donald trump clearly has care is ma and a base but there is expertise and they need each other. they've got to be on the same page. i think they are getting there. it's not the easiest evolution towards cooperation i've ever watched but it's happening. >> what do you compare this to? you brought up the mitt romney issue, if you can, give me an
