microsoft is competing against dell and hewlett-packard with a tablet. apple has a gap in product courtesy of the coming shift from iphone 4 to 5. what about google now that it's europe centric and europe's in trouble? the answer is clear. you can hold onto tech but if you have gains after these runs you should trim. trim all but apple. if you have profits in tech, take them. cut back on technology here. i don't think the quarter will be strong. oracle and microsoft have rallied on recent news the state of play is weaker than we like. this is the most seasonally weak group in the market. it always was a positive moment for the market but since tech became more europe centric, 20% of tech sales come as europe experiences the summer slowdown we have seen selling in tech that kept a lid on the market. the chaos in europe will accentuate this tech slow down and the reason oracle went higher after it reported had to do with the belief that europe must have been horrendous for them. it just turned out not to be. now that it isn't that bad tech stocks are back

nascar officials announced today in san francisco that they're teaming up with bay area base hewlett-packard to try to involve the fan base just a little bit more. the racing organization plans to work with hp to launch what they're calling a fan and media engagement center in charlotte, north carolina. the center will be staffed 18 hours a day with people searching the web for fan feedback and media reports. that information would then be given to the race teams so they can better interact with fans. >> it's another step in the evolution of technology innovation. and allows us to have a place where we can hear what fans are saying, and also monitor what the media is saying, and react to it. >> the center is scheduled to open in october. >>> tens of thousands are expected at that nascar race in sonoma, and 1 million people are expected for pride weekend in san francisco. how will the weather hold up. >> going to be crowded. let's check in with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. >> looks like we got the worst of the wild and wacky weather out of the way for the weekend. we had accumulating rai

. >> tom: an interesting competition among the dells, hewlett packards and otherring. scott stein with us from cnet.com. thanks, scott. >> thank you. >> susie: tomorrow on nbr, will they or won't they extend the twist? former federal reserve governor randy kroszner joins us with the latest on the fed's policy decision. businesses took out fewer "help wanted" ads in april. job openings fell to 3.4 billion in april. that's down from a four-year high the month before. the decline is blamed on slower u.s. growth and worries about europe's debt crisis. but "the wall street journal's" simon constable thinks uncertainty is what's really bugging the job market. >> whoever gets to be u.s. president next year, one thing remains clear-- the jobs situation needs fixing. the u.s. economy just isn't creating enough new positions. well, at least part of the problem is government itself. that's according to 2011 research from stanford university economist nicholas bloom and his colleagues, scott baker and steve davis. they point out that uncertainty over what the government is going t

hewlett-packard dropped 3.5% to its lowest price in a week. and caterpillar continues its sell-off, down another 2.8%. also in the financial space, goldman sachs did not get a bump despite speculation it is in talks to sell its hedge fund administration business. this includes back-office functions like tax and accounting work. goldman shares fell 1.8%. but the rumored interested buyer, state street, bucked the weak tone today to end 1.5%. that made it the strongest stock in the weakest sector. no comment from either bank. energy came out of energy stocks with coal miners digging new lows. alpha natural resources plunged over 9% today alone, pushing down to a new 52-week low. shares have lost 81% of their value in the past 12 months as softening steel demand and low natural gas prices hurt demand for metallurgical and thermal coal. thermal coal is used by electricity power plants. others fall included patriot coal, down more than 13%. walter energy off 6.6% and peabody, down almost 5%. as for key coal customers, the steelmakers? a.k. steel fel
