you have lived in hialeah? >> hialeah, sorry about that folks in florida. even with the increasing popularity, many are choosing to cast ballots intern and there they are on election day. and in knoxville new hampshire, that is the first to vote in the presidential election and the 10 registered voters are there for the first time ever it was a tie. 5 times for president barack obama and more for president barack obama. >> voters have already voted. jeanine joins us from the registrar's office and i know people are showing up, so what is happening now jeanine? >> we have already started to see some activity. this is a registrar's office and it's also a polling place and it is a vote by male drop off box. cars are lining up and people inside are handing in their ballots. now we have already seen several people drive through the parking lot to drop off their ballots before 5:00 a.m. they will be here to help open all the voter offices and they are expecting a high voter turnout and they wanted to make sure their voices were heard. >> it was important for me t

tom, what was it about hialeah that made you zero in on it? [laughter] the way you did? how were you correctly, i think, able to zero in on the fact that that is a pretty important aspect of understanding the neutrality of cuban culture in miami? >> well, i arrived here thinking it was a race track still. it is still there, but they had things like quarter horse races and this and that. because it was the greatest track just to look at in america. there were flamingos in the infield, and the way they kept -- and not in a cage. the way they kept it, they planted these shrubs around the infield that they require in order to keep their pink color. if they don't have this to eat, they turn white, and they feel terrible. anyway, it was a gorgeous place. but then when i got here thanks to oscar corral and his mother-in-law and some others i found out that the real little havana in latvia is hialeah. but it's not very little anymore. about 225,000 people. and that was the population of miami within the city limits. >> within miami proper? just over 400,000. >> i thought little

long lines the to report today and a lot of places, hialeah florida, down in miami-dade county, one areae lines were long, hours' long lines there, all day long. but it's not acrosse board. some places, precincts you went to, the lines were 10, 15, 20 minutes, and that was it. we're at the tabulation center in palm beach county. what i want to show you, what these people behind me are doing right now, counting absentee ballots. what they are doing is transposing faulty ballots that went out. and let me show you what we had. right here, anderson, 35,000 of these went out that were wrong. the jigs of the supreme court header here was left off. so when they came back in, the machines couldn't scan. so what these people are doing, and there are republican and democratic monitors behind each of these volunteer workers, they're taking the faulty ballots and transposing them on to correct ballots, and then, they will be put into the machine. so far, they've corrected 23,000 ballots. they do not expect to have all the rest of them in those boxes back there done before the end of the night. it's
