i want to bring in the republican mayor of hialeah, florida. mr. mayor, thanks so much for joining us. hialeah, for people who don't know, it's in miami-dade county, which is florida's epicenter of the virus in your state. you said publicly that the governor has forgotten your city. why do you think that is? >> jake, first of all, we are the second largest city in miami-dade county. we're the sixth largest city in the state. from the beginning of this coronavirus, i've not had one conversation with the governor about our needs. again, i criticized them early on and maybe he didn't like that because from the beginning we were asking for a testing site here in the northwest area of miami-dade county. it took for months to get one. i also criticized him when the state was having problems with the unemployment benefits that people were not able to get into the computer system for weeks here in the city we actually had to do a printout and print thousands and thousands of these benefit applications so people could come and pick them up. and, again, i've

force for long-term care facilities in hialeah, the highest concentration of these cities in the state of florida. take a listen to what he told me this morning. >> we have to also consider not just the members that reside within these facilities but also the employees, all right? most of the time we have employees that work for a third party. and so today employee a might work at alf-1 but tomorrow they might york at alf-2. if the employee is not taking precaution precautions, it may be very fatal not just in one facility but in multiple. >> reporter: stephanie, he emphasized that they need support and solutions. ppe, they need more of it, and testing. they need more of that to protect these vulnerable populations. stephanie? >> all right, dasha, thank you. let's turn now to the state of california, set to pass new york state's case total as early as today. steve patterson is outside an emergency room in burbank.

are you seeing this in hialeah? >> we're seeing some of it. i think the hospitals are doing a great job. their protocols have improved a lot in the last three months and that's what's helping a lot and that's why you see the death rate lowered, but again, we have to continue to send a message out and not just the confused messages and you have some saying we should open the schools and some we shouldn't and we should have one united message saying we have to take care of each other. we have to wear masks and be aware of social distancing and wash our hands constantly and we have to have one message come from the top to the bottom and as a city we need all of the help we can get from the state government and the federal government because this has fallen on our laps right now. >> specifically, one of the mixed messages is coming from the president when he says that the country is in a good place with the virus right now. what do you say to that? >> the numbers are not saying that. we are finding ourselves in deeper waters and i'm not going to s
