kristin thorne is live for us in hicksville. >> good morning, 29.6 inches to be exact here in hicksville. just an incredible amount of snow and what was really interesting about this storm is that it seemed at least on long island that it went right through the middle of the island. typically when we get snow storms here it is the north shore or south shore that gets hit. but this really went right through the middle. so hicksville, commack, islip, north merrick, those are the ones where we saw some of those really high snow totals. we want to show you video we got from hicksville earlier this morning. you see the plows out. the travel ban has been lifted here on long island back at 7:00 in the morning as it was in the city. people are out and about again. not typical of a sunday morning. the stores are slowly starting to open back up. lot of businesses are closed. very few are open although they're slowly starting to come back now. obviously the plow-drivers have a lot of work to do today. i talked to one girl who said actually she's been up since 10:00 last night and she's working stra

on long island hicksville racked up 29.6. for new jersey, the hardest hit spots long valley and bern arrived both had 30 inches of snow. will the forecast help or hinder the clean up? meteorologist jeff smith is here with the details. >> when you get a winter's worth definitely have unique issues to say the least. i think the forecast will help the clean up in that each of the days this week get a little bit above freezing and we'll get gradual melting. it won't happen quickly enough to cause flooding but the problems arise when you get the massive puddles forming and also at night when you get temperatures below freezing and any melting that occurs and any standing water that you have tends to refreeze. right now the temperature at refreezing in central park but expected to dip well down in the lower 20s by early in the morning. you're already down in the 20s in places like newark. 31 at jfk where they got over 30 inches in this storm. temperatures down in the 20 and up towards monticello where you barely got a flake of snow
