we had that curriculum designed to help students in their selection of high-school. as you saw with our programs, the programs are dispersed throughout the district. however, they are not in every school. we try to make students aware of what programs are available and where they are available, so when they are making their selection they can end up in a school where they have that opportunity if they are interested in engineering or architecture. again, in the ninth grade, we have a sign ahead curriculum which really helps students plan out a six-year plan, making sure they meet requirements, making sure they are able to purchase debate in their elective courses, and they are then able to have contracts with professionals in the industries they are interested in. the 10th grade starts when a few of our academies start as well. that is when we have this first year where they are taking the elective class, at intro to engineering, intro to architecture. carpentry programs, intro to carpentry. so, these three years, it is really an awareness, and exploration, and in 12t

and you have both washington high school and presidio junior high. the same situation has occurred over the years periodically on balboa, the other end of washington high school. the merchants in that area, particularly food merchants, have had to get together and literally pound on the door of the high school principal and that staff in order to get anything done and at times, have actually had students get out and do the cleanup. i would make a suggestion. i cannot enforce it, but i would make a suggestion. if you would talk to your clients and have them get together with the other fast- food restaurants that are directly adjacent to them, and call on washington high school, as a group, and tell them their students are causing a problem. it has to be done periodically. the school does something -- you have to do it again. it would be an indication that there are students, over which the schools do have some immediately -- and needed control, are causing problems for the neighborhood. the kids want the restaurants. the schools want the restaurants.

romney apologized for what he described as stupid high school pranks and said there was no harm intended. jan crawford has our report. >> reporter: as first reported by "the washington post," romney and other students, 46 years ago at the prestitigious cranbrook school teased a student and hatched a plan. they held him down as romney clipped his blond hair. phillip maxwell, a classmate involved in the incident, told cbs news he believes it was an assault and battery. now a lawyer in michigan, maxwell said, i've carried this story with with me a long time. it was just a black mark on my character that i didn't stop it. four other classmates confirmed the incident to "the post" saying the student john lauber was nonconformist. lauber revealed he was a homosexual and died eight years ago of liver cancer. romney was first asked about the incident on a radio show. >> you know, i don't remember that incident. and i'll tell you, i certainly don't believe that i or -- i can't speak for other people, of course, thought the fellow was homosexual. that was the furthest thing from our minds back in
