it comes after a deadly stabbing at monterey -- at montgomery high school in santa rosa. a rodrÍguez is li newsroom with changes. gloria: the santa rosa police chief participate in a listening session after a student was stabbed to death at school last week. chief john keegan saying in a post on facebook leaders are committed to ensuring santa rosa students are say. students are making their voices heard after this tragedy. >> it took a death to finally realize our school is suffering and we are screaming for help. gloria: hundreds of students walking out of class at santa rosa montgomery high school because of safety concerns. less than a week after jaden pienta was fatally stabbed in classroom. another student was that another student suffers from a stab wound. a safety meeting in l tragedy. many voiced their concerns to bring back school resource officers. that is something montgomery high school did not have. >> i would like to know if there are talks for bringing back the sro. >> when the pandemic hit we lost our sro because everybody was working from home, but it is

we talked about the high school. there it is. gunderson high school right across the street. a lot of people dropping off the kids right now. let's talk to one of the teachers here. you found out you are looking at what i'm looking at all these investigators. what what's going through your mind that a house that could possibly have exploded is right next year. i school. >> i mean, being that it it makes it a lot easier to talk about it, right. but >> you know, we we i don't know that we've we've that i've thought about it that much. it's kind of just crazy >> but >> to me, and i think to a lot of the people at the school, it's it's an anomaly of what's what this community represents and the school when you're 23 years and play the craziest thing that happened. like i said, it's not representative of like who we are, the community. that's why i think it's a little bit of a shock to do at least talk to your kids about it. the kids who are asking about it, right. and then again, the answer was like, we really don't know. but like i wouldn't be here if i didn't feel safe, right?

justin andrews is live at the high school this morning. stin. >> reporter: gianna, students have been bold saying they don't feel safe, and that feeling really has been there for a while because they say they voiced the concerns to the school district but nothing has been done. they say they feel unsafe, that's the feeling they're feeling and that's forced them not to be able to focus while in class. today's planned rally could besimilar to the one we saw last week after police arrested a student for bringing an unloaded gun to school. this happened the same day the stabbing happened at montgomery high. security is an issue across all the schools in the district. students say the best friend of jayden pienta, the students stabbed to death at montgomery high, witnessed the stabbing. she says the three boys involved had a history of issues and the school knew about it multiple times. other students say that the freshman who did the stabbing previously slashed pienta's car tires and nothing was done. >> my school absolutely failed him, 100%. i

these are places where if you can think back to high school even, like a normal high school, and being teenager where standing out in certain ways major really vulnerable and could feel unsafe. imagine that feeling in juvenile hall where standing out, putting yourself forward, putting your stories forward in a certain way can be really dangerous and can put a target on your back. so, i was there for a long time before everyone knew me. i don't think it was that big of a factor at the end of the day. it did take a lot of courage for young people with this awkward white guy and a button-down and just put themselves out there. in a bigger way, a more existential way, these kids have all been through a lot. i would say -- i cannot say every single kid in juvenile hall has experienced pretty severe trauma in their lives through abandonment or neglect or addiction, poverty, all of these things. i could say every single kid i have met in juvenile hall has experienced trauma. it takes a lot of courage to revisit that, even the shallow surface of that. susan: on the flipside, you say you were g

members who gathered at his memorial as more of the lopez's daughter graduated from montgomery high school, anderson is supposed to come here for his freshman year. it's terrifying to think about the next year. so be here. she wants to see school resource officers back on campus, but says that that does not happen. she'll consider transferring her son to another school district worried that her son could fall victim to violence, thinking that you're going to drop their son off and you're going to pick them up later and just. >> that parent is never going to pick them up again. >> that's really sad. that's heartbreaking. the santa rosa school board held a special meeting all day thursday closed to the public, but many in the community, especially students, are demanding change this to be the adults and the and the stuff coming up with solutions and fixing this school because just there's a lot of problems. classes at montgomery high school have been canceled for the rest of the week. police say the 15 year-old student who they believed to be responsible for his debt is in custody, but they'

now following jayden's death, montgomery high school canceled classes for the rest of the week. school is set to resume next week, although we have heard that some students plan on walking out of class. >> on monday morning. but for now in santa rosa, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> an update now on to a very active investigation in the south bay about those explosive materials that were found inside of a san jose home. police are now saying the man arrested for possessing those materials may also be connected to to pg and e transformer explosions. 35 year-old peter kara said was arrested on thursday. police say that their investigation actually began back on january. 5th when they received a report of a transformer explosion at that time pg e told officers they a similar explosion after investigating the 2 incidents. police were able to confirm that the explosive devices work knighted at the time. their investigation eventually led them to the suspect who now faces 9 felony charges along with finding explosive materials inside of his home. police say they also discovered ssibl

the mercury news reports that charter school has about 600 middle and high school students. the school board is dealing with the $4.5 million budget deficit and couldn't find a reasonable option for keeping the school over. some of denali school is due to close after the end of the school year. santa rosa high school remains closed as the investigation continues into this week's deadly stabbing on the campus of 15 year old boy was arrested shortly after the attack. montgomery high school wednesday morning 16 year old jayden pn to was killed. now we're hearing from the mother of the 16 year old boy who was also hurt during that same static, she says. 15 year old suspect was the only person who had a weapon. it was not self defense at all. you know if the fight was broken up initially. and then you go and start fighting him again. and you brandish a weapon at that point. the 15 year old boys suspect is being held at juvenile hall on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, assault and bringing a weapon onto campus. the army corps of engineers is going to spend $16 million to fix
