their stock hit an all time high yesterday. we're watching for square earnings on wednesday and mastercard earnings on thursday. mastercard did hit its own record high in around mid-march. we're 4% below those levels at this point it's square that could be the most exciting out of the entire bunch just due to the anticipated volatility around the stock over the last year it's gone from 18 bucks to as high as 58 plus. a good part of that had to do with optimism over square's decision to get more into the cryptocurrency side of things but that means price volatility has been a contributor to the down side price action in square it's already 18% or so below its record high and melissa, the options market already expecting fireworks. prices right now imply what could be an 8% move possibly up or down post-earnings, that could be a $1.5 billion swing in market value if it comes to pass. >>dom chu in the newsroom. square is up 37% but down 18% from its high so with earnings next week, how should you play the stock? make has another c

from 2003 to 2007 where issuances were as high as 33% in 2007. now 12% of issuance year to date. the average level in the new issuances is extreme dread there have been outflows from a high-yield asset class. 20 billion has flown out of the mutual funds. that could seem an alarming number. there is a lot of cash flow that comes out of the high-yield bond market. we see about $20 billion just this month being freed up. jonathan: morgan stanley also pointing out the maturity wall for high-yield is very dated. not imminent, not in a big way. >> negligible. we have seen the last years pushing maturities way out to the future. what is the backlog of deals that need to be financed? one thing we came into 2018 believing is there would be a ton of new issuance because there would be some m&a announcements. broadcom and qualcomm, that is a huge deal that did not happen. there is a risk that the att time warner deal is likely to come undone and put $30 billion back into the market. very few transactions in high-yield at the moment, so we can be nimble. jon

we have such a high debt level. a higher interest rate, a lower interest rate than what we're projecting makes a real difference in the interest costs that the federal government experiences. you know, we obviously-- what we've done, we've forecast because of the legislative changes, we expect interest rates to accelerate faster than we did before, and get to a same sort of relatively high level than we expected all along. just, we think it's going to accelerate things faster. but, again, as you mentioned, if interest rates are higher or lower, that will make a pretty big impact on where we are with respect to debt in ten years. things like-- we haven't had a chance to look at that much. i know we've got tariffs on steel and aluminum and those aren't really in our forecast. that sort of thing could affect gdp growth. so that would be part of our next baseline, sort of be included, i guess in our economic forecast. >> so just to clarify, the likelihood of higher interest rates is why you believe gdp will fall below p

we are seeing some cracks in the high-yield market. new issues that have been coming to market have been struggling if they do not have strong covenants and if the companies are highly leveraged. so there is some discernment coming into the primary market. but high-yield spreads more broadly have not really widened out. so tesla is very much facing the pressures, as greg and jim have already mentioned, that the company faces, but high-yield still has a way to go. if the short end though keeps going up, it does mean that the corporate costs of borrowing are rising. and what i think is interesting about so many folks who were jumping into the short end to pick up that additional yield, is that with high-yield credits or levered loans, you want a longer runway if they have to grow into their capital structure. and tesla is a good example of not potentially not having enough runway to grow into their capital structure. jonathan: jim, talk to me about that, the opportunities that you might see in high-yield at the moment. because triple c's

beingu worried about high? also, is there anything that is on the horizon that would make those rises more quickly? changing the overall picture, tariffs have been in the news a lot. all, one of the reason that we have actually upped our forecast of interest rates pretty significantly since june of 2017 because we have just had a great deal of fiscal stimulus on an economy that is outof slack. we expect we going to have a nice jump in gdp potential. we expect there will be pressure on prices, on inflation and interest rates. we expect the fed will excel the rate their increase in interest rates. that is actually a part of what we are seeing here in the slowdown of the gdp forecast. we see federal funds rate. we expect it to go up 2.5% by the end of this year, by about 3.5% by the end of next year. we expect the fed will have to deal with these inflation ary pressures. you are right to focus on interest rates, because interest rates are one of the more uncertain parts of our forecast. we have such a high debt le
