the response that highland park unity received, that's the response that often -- we had to make sure that there is a baseline of support within our school communities that we are creating systems of care. sasha-ann: there are currently fewer than 60 officers and 40 cbs schools, that's down from 180 officers in june 2020. you told us that you support putting police back in schools. what evidence do you have that that would make school safer? mr. vallas: the fact that running school districts for 20 years, i have never had a school shooting. the police officers were put in the schools because in the 1970's, there was a school shooting. in new orleans somebody came into an athletic game and hadn't an uzie. i believe that police are there not to police schools. when officers have been improperly utilized by the principal's, that's when you have had problems. my opponent wants to defund the police, to really pressure the schools to remove officers from the schools. i believe that police officers need to be asked to the entrance of the schools, or a police car at the beginning and end of t
