alicia acuna reporting live on scene in highlands ranch, colorado. alicia? >> shep, this will be an advisement hearing for the two suspects. the douglas county sheriff says they're also students of the same school. the sheriff says deputies from a substation nearby arrived within two minutes yesterday and could hear the gun shots as they ran into the school. investigators say there was a struggle and then the two shooters were taken into custody. law enforcement teams have been searching the suspects' homes and a vehicle. the house has disturbing graffiti covering it. the sheriff says he will not discuss a motive. >> we know pistols were used in this assault. the number of weapons at the school, we won't release that. there was two hand guns. i'll tell you that at this point. >> nine students were shot. eight injured, one killed. 18-year-old kendrick castillo was three days away from graduation. >> i know you have an obligation to put out a picture but soon, very soon, let us move passed focusing on the identity of the suspects and their images and focus ins

cnn's correspondent scott mclean joins us from highlands ranch, colorado.e us an idea how things are, how this town, this community are feeling. >> reporter: yeah. a lot of people are asking, you know, how this happened here and why these two suspects carried this out or allegedly carried this out since neither really had any criminal history, but, one, the 18-year-old suspect, devon erickson had a history of progress concerning behavior according to his former classmate at the stem school, kevin cole. cole remembers erickson as someone who tried to get a rise out of people, who was pretty easily offended and had a pretty short fuse as well. but more concerning than that were some off-color jokes he would make on a pretty regular basis about school shootings, for instance, like saying to cole on several occasions he shouldn't show up to school tomorrow and other things like this. take a listen. >> he would walk into the classroom and from time to time would say -- we always thought it was a joke, but he would say when the pencil hits the floor, i'm going to

alicia cuna is live in highlands ranch. >> reporter: hi, dana. colorado's governor has ordered flags lowered to half staff to honor the victims of yesterday's tragedy. kendrick casillo was three days shy of his high school graduation. we are also hearing about a hero. the kwraoupbd marine corps confirmed one student, brendan biley who was in the delayed entry program, assisted in subduing one of the shooters. the marines said brendan's courage to swiftly ending this at the risk of his own safety is admirable and inspiring. his actions resulted in safety and protection of his teachers and fellow classmates. brendan was one of the 1800 plus students inside the stem school highlands ranch when the sheriff said the two suspects walked in through the middle school entrance and into the high school before they began shooting in two different classrooms. the district attorney, who will prosecute this case, all headed the case against the aurora theater shooter. he lives in this community and had this to say at a news conference earlier today. >> in 20 y

ron mott joins me now live from highlands ranch, colorado.e authorities released any new information on the suspect. >> no motivate yet at this point. the adult male in the case is expected to be in court this afternoon. the juvenile female is also under arrest. both of them facing a slew of charges. both of them students at the school behind me. in terms of the response yesterday, this was remarkable, because time is obviously a huge critical factor in saving lives. and there's a sheriff's office about a mile down the road. when the call came in, they were able to respond within two minutes, but they were beaten by some crews that were on the street on patrol. when they got into the school, we've heard about the controversy there at parkland with how that first responding unit responded, they went right into the school. they saw that one of the suspects was already in the custody of the private armed security guard in the school. they went after looking for this second suspect. it's a large complex here. this is the smaller of the two. the s
