here with us to share their insights, democratic strategist hilary rosen and former pennsylvania congressmanepublican charlie dent. hilary, i want to start with you. we are in a way different place than where we started on tuesday when you had some trepidations about how the night would go for democrats. how are you feeling now? >> yeah, well, actually by tuesday i felt a little better. last weekend i was nervous. but i think that the gop scare tactics in those last few days really sunk them and i think donald trump's visibility really sunk them across the country. so i'm excited. i think if we can get a little bit of margin of safety in the senate with these two seats, i think senator cortez masto is going to pull it out. the outstanding votes seem to be in the democratic populous area of clark county. look, i think, you know, the senate is a big back storm. it's important for judicial nominations, to prevent the house from executing on really radical things once the republicans take over. so i think we're going to end up in kind of a draw. >> charlie, you and i have actually talked quite a

. >> let's get hilary rosen to weigh in as well. head, hilary. >> well, let's look at some practical realities here, which is that, you know, with the democratic senate we can continue to confirm judges. joe biden has been very successful at confirming judges for the federal judiciary. he also gets to continue to govern, which means that he gets his cabinet and sub cabinet officials confirmed when he needs them. we were looking at, you know, a scenario where that might get a standstill. i agree with ashley. this is a great moment for our country. i disagree a little bit that, you know, that means we are going to get a big proactive legislative agenda. i just don't think the house of representatives is going to let that happen under a republican majority. but i think what we have with this back stop in the senate is that the president will get to continue to govern, that, you know, the bad things won't happen, and we're going to walk into 2024 with, you know, a positive story to tell. >> kristin, a huge win for the democrats in the un

. >> hilary rosen, election deniers, major election deniers, took big losses up and down the ticket. say about the state of our democracy? >> well, i think that it means that we are going to have a presidential election that might actually, you know, depend on the results of the voters. and that is where we should be, and that's a good thing. i think the political consultant and me would love to see donald trump announce for president next week and have a big republican food fight and have them all you know, complaining about each other for the next year and with trump right front and center on this but i'm not sure that's the best thing for the country. i think that where we found ourselves as democrats is, we want to have a supreme court that respects are individual lives, our liberties, our families. we want a congress that is responsive to the needs of working people, and you know, that is essentially meaning that we want a governing from the center. and i think both parties will struggle without a little bit as we go into the next phase of the election process because, governing

. >> so hilary rosen, the reality here whether this is deemed a bias motivated crime, it does not affect the sentencing in colorado so this man is going to face significant jail time no matter what happens. how important is this distinction to the lgbtq+ community that it is recognized as a hate crime. as we know, from a law enforcement perspective, they are saying they do not have that. but as we all look at this, we understand the people who are targeting here are members of the community? >> well, it is important and it is particularly important in colorado springs because colorado springs is actually a hotbed for many many years of anti lgbtq rhetoric, activity, in the 90s it was one of the first places that created referendums, anti-gay referendums. so there is this history locally. the local republican members of congress have been very vocal against the community, and so i think it feels particularly scary and personal for people in colorado. i do not want to be clear about this. i am a gay and i stand in solidarity with the children in uvalde, the shoppers in the supermarket in b
