cherry hill are, i should say, mrs. cherry hill. she was a community leader who pushed for more affordable housing to be built in east oakland. nurses in the south bay say the proposed closure of a local trauma center could prove deadly. nurses medical staff and city leaders rallied outside the regional medical center in san jose back in february. the trauma center announced plans to close its trauma center in august because of low patient volume. but some staff community members say the closure will harm the most vulnerable people in san jose, according to santa clara county, most of the patients at smc are latino and use medi-cal medicare, or they're simply uninsured, just one of two trauma centers in san jose. it now means that people on the east side will have to commute an extra 20 minutes to the santa clara valley medical center if they have an emergency regional medical is part of the good samaritan health care system owned by hca, the largest health care system in the country. as a result of the loss of jai nephrology and th

firefighters remain in the communications hill neighborhood, attacking hotspots after this hill went up in flames around 530. we dispatch a tier two, which is approximately 40 firefighting personnel to the scene. crews were able to get it under control. well, at least they had the forward progress stopped in about 2 to 3 hours. some people living nearby noticed the flames immediately. others got calls from loved ones. i was sitting at work and my girlfriend sent me a camera view from the communications center up there on the hill, and you could see this big plume of smoke. i was a little concerned because i was trying to figure out from the camera where the fire was, but when he got home, firefighters had quickly stopped forward progress. san jose fire says about 30 acres burned. we weren't actively protecting structures, but we were definitely attempting to keep it in the vegetation and nowhere else. yeah, and firefighters were attacking this fire on different sides of the hill. the cause of the fire is still under investigation in san jose. i'm jocelyn moran, nbc, bay area news. jo
