that there was no way hillary clinton could lose. no way donald trump could win. and by friday of the same week, it was a one-point race. and that was before the comey letter. also secretary clinton herself, the night of the day that comey letter was released on october 28th said at her rally, that she -- it didn't matter because americans had already decided what they thought about the e-mails. and that it was already baked in the cake. and this was a messaging point from her campaign. so at the time they said that, maybe it was wishful thinks. maybe they weren't being completely truthful, and now it's supposed to be the comey letter, and i have to say, donald trump turned over 200 counties that went for president obama in 2012 to donald trump 2016. that's because of messages that connect with people in those areas. not because of a letter late in the game. i do think that it probably had an affect on some voters, but if you want to reach suburban women and the question is you're the first female president running for -- first female running for president as party

by that standard, hillary clinton had 10 million extra votes that made no difference to her electoralal. donald trump had 8.3 million extra votes despite the fact trump won 30 states while clinton only won 20 plus the district of columbia for a final electoral vote tally of 306 to 232. the democratic strongholds are growing in population and size and more diverse and suggest they would continue to favor democrats in the future. it also means it could be a while until we see a republican win the popular vote again. thatoesn't mean they won't win the presidency because it's in the states in the industrial midwest where this election was decided, pennsylvania, wisconsin and michigan. if these states continue to be tightly contested with a slight tilt to the right we may continue to see this split between the popular vote and electoral college when republicans win it going forward. >>> democrats have been losing big-time at the congressional level. why did they just elect the same leadership team in charge of the house democrats when they lost 63 house seats in six years? >>> back now wit

then you got hillary clinton.owever, that could be a little bit misleading as our buddy eric oster mire from spart politics points out. he says the population is always growing in this country. so if you're comparing the raw popular vote total of a candidate in 2016, of course it's going to be higher than any other total in history. the country is always bigger than it ever was before. one thing to think about is the percentage of the vote she actually got. and that sitting down there, again 48.15. there are a bunch of losing candidates in the past who have gotten a higher percentage of the vote. of course they are still counting them up. she could climb in this list a little bit. but she did get more popular votes than any loser before, more popular votes than a lot of candidates who have won. but when you look at the percentage, there are some candidates who have lost races who have done better than hillary clinton did. a little bit of perspective. a little bit of context as that popular vote total continues to
