i took some walks on the black hills to pray in the black hills are good for both of those items, walkingand praying. they are beautifully rugged and silent but by the time we left the hills our family had come to the conclusion that we would run. if we lost they would leave us alone. but we would run for congress and we would do as a family. in 2020 when i was weighing decisions about how to get south dakota through the covid pandemic, custer state park is where our family also with to talk and to pray and to connect with god. sometimes you just have to go somewhere quiet to listen for gods voice. i believe that's what president coolidge experience, too. i feel very tied to this man who died about 40 years before i was even born. he helped make my states greatest monument happen come place for some of you might have learned about me for the very firstti time. he retreated to the same beautiful part in south dakota to make some of the most consequential decisions of his life. he had to make tough decisions, even though they were not popular because he knew they were the right thing to do.
