. >> we are at hillsdale college in michigan. joining us now hillsdale professor of history, portrayal of american conservatism. professor hart, what's the definition of an evangelical? >> that's a hard question but the simple one that i heard used is anybody who like billy graham. our viewers may not know who billy graham. it means someone who has had a personal relationship with jesus, kind of born-again experience. there's a longer history and a longer answer when you get in that history. >> host: can you lump evangelicals in one position or another? >> guest: you can in some way if you look ethically of people of british decent or english-speaking background. those protestants were important of formation in 20th century and also important constituency of regan and bush coalitions. there's affinity between that english background or scottish background protestants and with the republican party and people of dutch or german decent may have been at wasn't point in the democratic party because the democrats were a coalition of et

we have been talking with hillsdale college professor d.g. hart about his looks on evangelicals. >> we took 25 young pupil to vassar college, girls and boys. out of the 25 today, 24 are in college. that should tell you the power of changing the narrative, showing the lessons of someone can make of this date, but if you just place children and the places you see them, it can change their trajectory. and now is the first time those children have ever gone to a college because for many of them, their parents had newly graduated high school. so here are the statistics of brownsville. 32% of the residents have a high school diploma. 14% have a bachelors. 3% have a masters. the average income media and his $28,000 a year. but the main housing developments as 11,000 a year. we have the highest incidence of hiv and aids, the highest incidence of teenage pregnancies the highest incidence of any type of health. hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol and asthma. by the statistics, you would say why are you there? why do you care? but the question goes back

hillsdale is a very upscale shopping center. news of the attempted robbery took mall goers like chris crenshaw by surprise. sot i've been here ten years and i've never heard of anything like this before. the first suspect is described as a black female, 5'10" tall, skinny with black hair tied in a bun. she's approximatley 60 years old. the 2nd suspect is a black male, also about 60 years old, 6 and half feet tall, slender with short curly salt and pepper hair. he was wearing a zip up sweater with jean. a catastrophic computer failure. that's what officials with the d-m-v are calling a computer failure that has crippled more than half its offices *statewide. this caused by multiple hard drive failures in both primary and backup systems. the d-m-v says they maintain disaster recovery systems.but those systems were not designed to handle a loss like this. it was a very frustrating day for people who had business to get done. ,. the outage started monday and the d-m-v expected to return to normal operations today. but they say the r

he teaches history at hillsdale college, and he's a rigorous scholar. but like the paoluccis too, he's a public intellectual in the best sense of the term. brad is the author of several acclaimed books that have found wide readerships. this particular book has been reviewed everything where from the thy times to "the wall street journal" -- new york times to "the wall street journal" to national review. brad founded the imaginative conservative web site. with this biography of russell kirk, he's done us the great service of providing us insight into one of conservativism's most influential thinkers. brad doesn't treat russell kirk as some rell aric of a bygone age. rather, he writes of what he calls the timeless lesson that we can draw from kirk's life and writings. isi takes a similar approach in its work with college students. we ground young people in conservative principles precisely so they're equipped to apply those principles to what kirk called the great questions of the to hour. of the hour. and i think kirk offers some lessons that are especia
