joining me now, two of them, state representative from texas's 103rd district, and gina hinojosa. good to see you both. representative hinojosa, broadly speaking, what are texas democrats hoping to accomplish this coming week? >> this week, we will continue advocating for federal voting rights legislation, including talking to leaders from across this country. we were reminded by the vice president this last past week in our meeting with her that we're now national voting rights leaders, and we know this struggle doesn't just affect texas. it affects this whole country, and that other states have been in the cross hairs of these efforts to suppress our vote, and so i'm looking forward to speaking to legislators from across the country about their experience. >> and representative, i have to ask, do you plan to adjust given the news some of your colleagues have contracted covid? >> there have been adjustments, absolutely. we're testing daily. we have moved some of our own group meetings onto zoom while we figure out who has been infecting and who hasn't. so today, i took a covid te

let's discuss it with kochit hinojosa, she's a adviser for the d.c.nks for having me joshua. >> what are you hearing from people? granted, it's the first rolling and will probably be a full appeals process but what are you hearing so far? >> well this is a gut punch for many families. there are families all around this country that rely on dhaka and while this doesn't necessarily impact people who have darkness that is it puts them in limbo and what is happening here just to give you a bit of context is you can't have two new dhaka actions. we've seen about 50,000 new dhaka applications and this whole impacts, people who have been here since they were children and know america as their home and it's so something that a lot of families are living in limbo. but what is reassuring right now is president biden put out a statement saying that his department of justice would appeal it. they will be a dhs. a potential rule coming out of dhs soon and that he supports a pathway to citizenship through congress, whether that be reconciliation or the american tre

. >> representative hinojosa, i want to pull up what the bill would actually do because when you seerough voting, ban voting on sundays before 1:00 p.m. add restrictions to vote by mail. this one, which i think is perhaps the most astounding, lower evidence standard for overturning an election based on fraud. i mean is there any sense on the part of your republican colleagues that perhaps they have gone too far? >> well, absolutely. they will not even defend their own bill in public. in fact, the author of the bill has now disavowed the bill that he filed that we killed by walking out and breaking quorum. look, we are texas democrats. we are used to working in a bipartisan manner to get good things done for texans. we have been in the minority for a long time, but this is a bill that they can't even defend in public. so as the minority party, we did what we had to do to defend texans, to defend our districts, and that was walk out and deny them quorum. >> so i want to underscore the point that you just made there. ""the houston chronicle"" recently reported some of the texas republic

joining me now, state representative gina hinojosa. republicans plan to pass this.>> when i saw all options are on the table, we are definitely considering that option. understand how difficult that is. getting over 55 members of our house to all leave the state, probably because the speaker can have us arrested and brought back to the florida house, if we aren't present and quorum is broken. this is not a full-time paying job. we get about $7,000 a year. most of us have other jobs and families to get back to. we just came off a six-month session, where we made the sacrifices, knowingly. but to go again for an extended period of time, is a hardship. and the governor has defunded our entire legislature in punishment for not passing his voter suppression bill. i have staff members right now who do not know if they will get paid in august. >> that's helpful content. let me reframe the question -- which tools do you have at your disposal to fight back? >> well, we're not in a majority. we don't have the ability to vote it down. the republicans took none of the amendment
