shane franklin miller is suspected of killing his family tuesday night in humboldt county. more than 70 law enforcement officers are on the hunt. miller grew up in the area, and knows the force and the region very well. he's considered armed and dangerous. >>> new at 11:00, it's being called a slow motion disaster, more than two dozen homes in northern california are being in danger of being swallowed up. the homes are 100 miles north of san francisco. 8 homes in the lakeside heights houses development are now abandoned and ten more are under notice of imminent evacuation. water that has bubbled to the surface is playing a role in the destruction. but no one can explain why that water has suddenly abeered in an area with groundwater shortages. unlike sinkholes, homes in this hilly volcanic area are moving several feet on one day and a fraction of an inch the next. homeowners have asked for funding to determine the cause of the collapse. the situation is getting desperate for santa rosa, we'll see a little bit of the sea breeze makingive humidi these are likely locations that by later on tonight, tomorrow morning, you'll see the low clouds and fog setting up near the inner east bay down the coast. you will see low clouds and possibly drizzle, right now, those low clouds really held down at the coast near san francisco, marine layers going to deepen up, as the system here abrooching from the west, is going to help strengthen it during the day tomorrow. the ma reenl layer which is extinguished down for the weekend, allowed those inland temperatures to store into the 80s and 90s. this is going to increase in coverage by tonight and tomorrow. northwest windses down the coast will help break up the clouds along the sea shore. you'll see as we go hour by hour tomorrow. for the afternoon northwest winds should bring in dryer air and clear things out, it's not going to bring a big warmup in our temperatures we're looking at 60s to 70s in the afternoon. cloud cover coming in, should keep the temperatures coming up. mainly 50s tomorrow morning. sunshine getting close to 6:00 in the morning, look out for areas of mist in your morning commute. mostly sunny skies, close to 80s in san jose. we should see mid-80s around the trivalley, and a few spots in fairfield, heading out toward vacaville and pittsburgh. you may see some upper 80s tomorrow. that will be the warm spot or the warmest bay area around the bay area, out toward the east and into the north bay, you'll see those highs in the 70s to 80s, pretty nice weather, a little breezy at times, temperatures may try to bump up a little built inland for tuesday, and wednesday through friday. keep an eye on the forecast. you're going to go for partly cloudy skies, cooler temperatures, no showers in the forecast. those will stay north of santa rosa thursday afternoon. we'll see high pressure building in by next sunday which may try to get us closer to 90 degrees, perhaps by next >>> the site of one of the deadliest school shootings in u.s. history may soon be demolished. a group of elected officials in newtown, connecticut, voted unanimously to tear down sandy hook elementary school and rebuild a new facility on the same site. the school is where a gunman, adam lanza, opened fire killing 20 first graders and 6 educators in december. the proposal now goes to the local board for final approval. happening now, britain's prince harry is in colorado this morning, part of his week-long trip to the united states. he is there to show his support for wounded warriors and will attend the fourth annual warrior games hosted by the u.s. olympic committee. lee ann gregg has a preview of that event. >> reporter: u.s. service members and veterans during one of their final practices before the warrior games where 260 milliontary athletes who have suffered injuries or illness will compete in seven sports. >> disable washes away as sport takes over. >> reporter: the happening now, crew members on board the international space station are conducting a space walk right now to fix an ammonia leak. these are pictures of the mission control, and they are helping on that space walk. crew members chris cassidy and tom mashburn are trying to find the source of a leak that happened yesterday. the crew reported seeing white flakes outside one of the solar arrays. it is leaking ammonia coolant. that cooling system has a long history of small leaks but that the station is capable of operating normally and the crew is not in danger. >>> closer to home now, new details about that multimillion dollar catamaran that capsized in the san francisco bay near treasure island. this morning an australian newspaper is reporting that the boat's new design could be blamed. one of the sailors said the boat cracked and crumbled, trapping and killing andrew simpson. the boats have been redesigned for speed for the summer's america's cup competition in the san francisco bay. and this could be part of the problem. pressure builds in. right now we're in the good to moderate range across the board for today but that is the case whenever high pressure builds in we don't have moisture to purify our air quality. 51 in san francisco. 48 in sunnyvale and 52 degrees, chilly enough for a coat or light jacket in san jose. high pressure is on its way, packing a lot of energy already and it's going to gain more and more energy as we head into the weekend. temperatures are going to soar from the low 80s in places like livermore into the 90s. as of tomorrow we'll be in the mid to upper 90s for your saturday so all things into perspective, all things in perspective, temperatures today will be a little bit more mild than where we're headed by saturday downright hot, seeking shade. 92 degrees on sunday, and monday and tuesday temperature also level off. it's still going to be rather warm as we get into next week and mike it's that time of year, the kids are getting out of school. is the drive lightning up a bit? >> it's not quite a fair judgment. we had monday off, some people i did, had monday off, thank you for holding the fort down. it was just me, scott as well, we were goofing off together. looking at the smooth flow and the traffic flow is later but later for the commute this week. that's the trend we see through summer as well so we'll see if the pattern continues. 101 typical build as well as 87 coming into downtown san jose. that's the south bay right now and a good volume of traffic on the roads, the next half hour will be critical from san jose. west 580 shows slowing around isabel's and also where there's reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle, injuries reported, called an ambulance for the motorcycle and driver. chp is on the scene to give us more details, hopefully just minor cuts and bruises. both directions showing eastbound and westbound. there is the trivalley. over to oakland a smooth drive on the maps. look at the live shot for the 800 past the coliseum. you're close to the limit high street through downtown and the east shore freeway the interstate 80 drive in the westbound direction, filling all the lanes underneath the university, a little break and slowing around the berkeley curve. we'll show you the maps as you approach that bay bridge toll plaza. we got a report of a crash on the east shore freeway. the cash is reported eastbound, opposite your commute but westbound is also featured in that report, talking about some of the northbound lanes, none blocks but we see slowing as well. we'll track this carefully, still is at 51st avenue and 12th street in oakland's melrose neighborhood. investigators say there was an auto repair shop in front. they used a fire extinguisher on the ground, indicating someone tried to put out the flames on their own. illegal wiring was found. the cause of the fire appears to be electrical. no one was hurt. >>> tesla is super charging its plan to install new battery charging stations across the country for its fleet of electric cars. scott mcgrew joins us live. tesla's ceo says you'll be able to drive coast to coast. >> right, tesla had the best range, the distance you can drive in the industry. now it will have some of the most charging stations, enough strung across the country to drive between l.a. and new york city, stopping every 200 miles or so for a 30-minute charge. that's a long time at the gas station but keep in mind those refueling stops are free and the car, that's still spendy though musk speaking at the all things digital conference reaffirmed tesla's plans to make a cheaper electric car sometime in the future, cheap around $30,000. it's relative. other companies not standing still, chevy introduced the spark ev. it will cost as little as $199 a month to lease. figuring the average person spends about $100, $150 a month in gasoline, $199 a month is tempting. the spark is a reinvented leaf more like that but it may be like the electrici forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> today temperatures climbing into the 80s, this morning it's quite a bit cooler as we head throughout the day today we'll end up five to ten degrees warmer than yesterday. yesterday the blanket of clouds to start, this morning the absence of clouds means all the heat that came out yesterday was able to make it into the atmosphere. hour by hour detail works like this, "today in the bay," 72 degrees inland and at noon and round ought the day at 81 degrees. warmer cities across the bay are 90. 75 degrees bayside and to give you a little bit of a hint as to where we're headed as we get into the hotter days, livermore up to 96 by saturday, 81 today. we could be rifling temperature records into the weekend. just prepare yourself for a heat wave in the bay. 6:30, it's building out there in terms of your traffic volume. let's check with mike. >> it is building. we've seen a later start to the commute the last few days this week, often happens after vacation day and a good volume of traffic headed up the incline, may be closer. we got word from chp there is a crash on that upper deck in the westbound commute involving a motorcycle, it did not hit anybody. the driver laid down the motorcycle, on its side and looking for reports on injuries and any lanes blocked. the chp and the bridge trying to get more detail to us. we're expecting more build up to the metering lights, they'll probably go a little slower. we see slowing speeds coming down into the 50s but berkeley, not a major concern. the crash west 80 over here, not a major w even though the initial report was eastbound we see a good slowing wbd out of rodeo. and then building also through richmond is a typical build spot so two slower spots. toward the trivalley west 580 as well. the earlier crash doesn't look like a major problem, involved two weeks and a motorcycle and didn't sound like there were any major injuries. it's out of the lanes and talking about warmer weather more motorcycles on the road. 880 a light volume helded down through milpitas and into the south bay and a peak san jose northbound 101. you can see the volume build i'll show you a new record, much of that due to unexpectedly good news about housing. if you live in the south bay or peninsula, here is why it's even better than you think. kay schiller says san francisco bay area prices rose 22% over the year, but case doesn't measure the south bay only the city and the east bay. the south bay has been doing even better than the city lately. so, good news for the city. should be great news for peninsula and south bay. secondly, laura and marla, three-month data from late winter. houses sell better in the summer. so, again, prices may be even higher than we expect. >> down on so-called swatting. state assembly approved a bill that carryies a fine of up to $2,000 and a year in jail for people who make those fake 911 calls. swatting has become popular with pranksteres, targeting the home of celebrities. the bill now goes to the state senate. mostly in the l.a. area, a dozen swatting calls. back in february, clipper street in san mateo, officers were called because of a swatting prank. san mateo police say they've seen six swatting cases in the city over the past couple of years. >>> for all you justin bieber fans out there, i know you're watching. justin bieber now under investigation for reckless driving after a former nfl star complained about the singer's speeding. johnson, seen on the left here, says he was outside in a gated community in calabasses when he saw bieber driving his ferrari at freeway speeds in a 25-mile-an-hour zone. he got in his prius and followed bieber to his home to confront him. he and another witness called sheriff's deputies who came to bieber's home. they plan to send the report to the l.a. county district attorney, which could bring misdemeanor charges against bieber. >> little bieber. >> comfortable readings this morning. little breezy out there. wind winds have relaxed as this area of low pressure starts to move to the east. for us, high pressure moves in quickly. big, strong ridge about take our winds and turn them offshore throughout the next couple of days. dry, downsloping winds do create elevated fire danger in the area. couple that with the heat we're expecting and it can be kind of dangerous. you could see a red flag warning go up through the weekend. onshore flow keep that is moisture strong in our atmosphere. it's pretty nice. you can't beat 76 in livermore, 72 in here, car went off a road reportedly into the bushes. chp has arrived. they're not sure about injuries but it does sound like they should be at least okay, nothing serious. but we're tracking that. that's an issue if you're getting on to south 680. if you're on the freeway itself, not a problem down toward that 280 interchange, that's more of a concern. good amount of slowing now, speeds over in the 50s toward dublin and pleasanton. 880 sorted itself out. no major issues until you get to south 680. earlier debris reported. now a crash. no injuries. activity as you're heading south 680 from are prompt i prompting some major concerns. for new details on the issue, let's check in now with traffic anchor mike inwith way live in our studio. good morning, mike. >> good morning, good morning. we'll start, laura, with the newer issue being blamed on -- it's a basic mistake. crews are welding bolts firmly into place. that's what you think they would want to do for safety sake. unfortunately they need to allow a little bit of space for natural expansion when the weather gets hot. live look at the eastern span this morning. dozens of one-inch diameter bolts have been sheared off, broken along the bikeway. bolts have been removed and replaced already. dealing with other issues on the newer eastern span, including steel rods in the base of the tower, which may add the risk of cracking there. 32 of those rods, in fact, have already broken and caltrans is doing tests to determine of 2,000 more across the bay bridge. the grand reopening was set for labor day but that's under review right now. most important is reassuring the safety for people that will use the bridge. that means you guys and me included. caltrans will update us on the issue this morning. we'll bring you that be a life or death situation for thousands of california school children later today, the state supreme court will hear arguments over who can administer insulin shots to kids with diabetes. right now, the law allows teachers, administrators and nurses to administer insulin. the california nurses association wants to change that so only certified nurses can give the sometimes life-saving shots. but parents in the american diabetes association argue that school employees, who are trained to give the shots, should be allowed to since many schools have only one nurse or none at all. >>> a new bill expanding who can perform abortions in california has been passed. and it's on its way to the state senate. the bill would allow nondoctors such as nurse practitioners, midwives and physician's assistants to perform certain abortions during the first trimester. it could increase the risk to patients. data from the trial showed both doctors and nondoctors performing the procedure with low error rates. >>> 6:32. walmart is owning up to environmental crimes in california and missouri. the world's largest retailer admitted in court yesterday it violated the clean water act. according to california court documents, before 2006, the company did not have guidelines or offer employee training for hazardous waste management and disposal. toxic materials were discarded in trash bins or
