a 30-year-old dustin free lander of hoboken. he and his wife attorneys. he is just about to get in the driver's side door when he is ambushed by two thugs who are trying to carjack his expensive suv. they shot him in the head, police say and sped off in his car. his wife was screaming. the small, the short hills mall, an affluent, expensive luxurious mall was in lock down for a short time. tonight police have not found gunmen. they are looking for two suspects who sped off in the stolen car and another vehicle, a green subaru. there is a reward being offered for their arrest. and we had breaking developments on this story. the stolen sufficiev was found newark in a high-crime area next to an abandoned home which is known for car thieves. they often drop the stolen cars there in that area. one of the possibilities tonight they are looking at is whether these two carjackers are connected to a larger car theft ring. but no arrests have been made. the short hills mall has reopened. we talked with shoppers today. and people are on edge. security here is very,

pictures of some of the amage that this man suffered and some of the previous scenes that we've seen in hobokene had a number of these attacks. you know, what are the police saying about this? >> well, in this case, police are saying we have to be very careful not to ascribe this automatically to the so-called knockout game, because we have for many, many years so-called random attacks. there might be mentally ill suspects who will randomly look at people for no reason. so, this assault very well could be part of a game, or it could just be a random thing with a disturbed individual. >> is there any evidence that there was videotape of this attack? >> this ac transit bus system does have video cameras on its buses, so the sheriff's department is not telling us whether they have video, but that will certainly be part of the investigation. >> he seems to be doing okay now. he says he was hit several times in the jaw. he said he couldn't believe that his teeth didn't come out, but he's doing okay now? >> yes, he is expected to survive. he is very lucky. we have had a number of assaults and inciden

i used to live in new york city and would occasionally go to the hoboken, new jersey, st. day parade, and there were so many young white men there vomiting in the streets, urinating in the streets, getting in fistfights in the streets. it was a sight to be seen. >> i've seen them myself. there's college dorms you can go to, every other room there's a bong, there are people talking about how much they enjoy drugs, a drug culture that people -- and white elders don't say anything about it. they kind of wink and they nod. >> you're looking at -- they're learning -- and the thing is that these young people are learning this kind of behavior in lacrosse camps, at college spring break, they're learning this kind of behavior at ivy league fraternities where drug use and binge drinking are norm normalized behaviors. and these kinds of places are kind of the hives of moral debasement that are leading to, i think, with what we're seeing, which is this white-on-white crime scourge. >> here's my question to you, what is it going to take to get the white power structure, prominent whit

the news of these arrests comes less than a week after dustin friedland a 30-year-old attorney from hobokennew jersey mall in an apparent carjacking. police launched a massive search for the suspects following the attack on sunday night. on monday, they found friedland's 2012 silver range rover parked in newark, but there was no sign of the suspects who had driven off in the car. earlier this week, police announced a $10,000 reward for anyone with information that would lead to the arrest, and prosecution of those suspects. people who they described as armed and dangerous. friedland has been out christmas shopping with his wife at the new jersey mall on sunday night. police say he had just helped her in to the car, opening up the door for her. they say he was confronted when he walked back behind the car. there was some kind of struggle, shots were fired, friedland's wife got out of the car and that's when the suspecting drove off in it. pam, victor. >> are we expecting some comments and more information later this morning? >> reporter: absolutely. we're going it find out how they have iden
