when i was young i read a book by eric hoffer who was a big figure way back when in the 50's and 60's0's, a very shrewd analyst of totalitarianism and what had happened in the soviet union and nazi germany etc. it was called the will to believe. it was an issue when i was young in political philosophy circles, how did people believe what turned out to be extremely dangerous and damaging, horrible really, in the communist future or nazi claims? the believers are a problem. but they don't actually form a majority of most societies. they usually are pretty strong or weak depending on the situation, a minority. the people who make the true believers dangerous in their beliefs powerful are the enablers. the people who should know better and you do know better in a certain respect. but who go along and who rationalizations, excuses and justifications for the beliefs of the true believers. they might not be true believers themselves but they explain, they are a little wrong about a few things they overthink things but the party of which they are a part has to govern because they do it for ot
