in fact, hollenbeck has become more than a temporary residence to the 200 people who live here. resident: i stepped across the threshold. there wasn't a thing in there, but i felt like home. julieta ortiz: i've been to catalina twice, to lawrence welk, to a lot of places they take us. i have a regular walking ptern every morning. and i participate in a lot of the activities that they have around here. and the best thing is, we do not have to cook our meals and wash up! so we have plenty of time to do what we want. jennifer devoll: so for me, it's been very interesting to get to know older people on a very personal level. and i think the main thing that i've learned, is that there's so many stereotypes about older people, and they really are just people. like people of any other age, they are just all different personalities, and they havl e different traits and quirks, and positive aspects that any other age group has. they are not to be stereotyped. they're just individuals. i hope i can live at least to be 100. really, i do.
