holly quan is in hayward and joins us by phone now.ly, i understand police are calling the fire suspicious? >> reporter: yeah. definitely. i'm in the carport of this low- rise high density townhouse complex on arf drive off hesperian. around 4:00 a.m. firefighters arrived to find four cars fully engulfed. the heat was so intense it melted the bumpers and taillights of cars across the driveway. but 20 people were evacuated from the nearby units because the fire was causing windows to burst and plastic vertical blinds to melt. the battalion chief says that car fires are not unusual. they happen every day but four of them fully engulfed all at the same time that's suspicious. these four cars are just burned- out shells. no one was injured. investigators will be looking into where the point of ignition may be and if there is a firebug on the loose. >> holly we heard maybe it started in a dumpster. is that the case? >> reporter: they were looking around -- there are some dumpsters around here. it's really dark out here, very high density lo

with me on the phone is holly quan from kcbs. i know you just talk to an investigator.give you any new information. >> reporter: yeah. they are saying that 7:30 is now the latest they say that the tube will re-open. the tow trucks have arrived as well as that other investigator. police say it's just before midnight. the silver traverse suv was speeding out of the webster tube when he was -- the driver was pulled over by alameda police. now, as officers approached the driver with four others in the car took off heading back into the wrong way into the webster tube slamming into a black corolla causing that driver major injuries. a gold car behind him also crashed causing moderate injuries to one person there. now, the driver of that wrong way suv along with the front passenger then jumped out and tried to run. they were then pursued and captured and arrested. they are looking at some felony drunk driving hit-and-run and a number of other charges. alameda police are still trying to sort out the details but 7:30 they say is the latest they should be able to reon the webste

i'm holly morris.now about you, but one of my favorite sounds of the fall season, marching bands. and this morning we are live at austin hill high school where this weekend they will be hosting the 9th annual oxon hill band invitational. there are bands coming out and competing and we have three this morning to feature. and we'll talk about the marching band community, how competitive it is and how they go about preparing for a competition like this and what the judges are looking for in terms of a marching band competition. it should be fun. if fact they said they might make me an honorary marching band member this morning. i don't know what i can play. maybe flags or baton. but we'll go through the patterns and talk with the administration about how this brings people around the school and get excited. some of them come as far away as north carolina to be part of the competition, to be a good fall morning. and they've already given me my own oxon hill high school shirt, complete with my name and ever

i'm holly morris.mbus day i'm going to introduce you to a brand new space in our area and give you a reason why you might want to check it out today because we are live in roslyn at the new artist-sphere. this used to be the old museum. but now you have a 62,000 square foot cultural campus where 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, they are going to have something going on. 100 events a month are going on here. and we're already being treated to some artists that have come out early to talk about the space. but here is the beauty of the place. it's not about any one particular kind of art. all kinds of art are going to be show cased here. be it musical, visual, cyber, they have it here. and this is the one of a kind edgy-type space to make a destination spot here in roslyn. we'll talk more about how this place came to be and we'll have several different artists show their talents this morning and why you want to check it out today is because they've had a two-day open house. this is the second day. everythin

with me on the phone is kcbs' holly quan live on the scene. we're hearing this is a wrong- way driver that caused this crash? >> yeah. absolutely. i'm looking at a twisted heap of what's left of a black toyota corolla about 11:30 to 12:00 a.m. last night alameda police made a stop on a silver suv. a driver with four people inside took offer heading the wrong direction into the webster tube slamming head on into a black corolla. the corolla driver suffered major injuries. gold car behind them slammed into the car, with moderate injuries. the suv driver and passengers jumped out, they were caught and arrested. three females in the back seat, one suffered minor injuries and went to the hospital. >> reporter: was the driver going the right way the person with the major injuries involved in the crash? >> yes. we believe so. that was the driver of the black toyota. he was coming out of the webster tube and then slamming head on into the silver suv that was going the wrong direction. >> reporter: holly, did you say one person was arrested the person
