hollister is right over that fault line. earlier, we were assuming, some of us, that this must been associated with the senator fault because of its location, but clearly, if it is near hollister, it is probably more likely to be associated with the calaveras fault. back to the two centers two separate >> -- there you go. you see our logos the first one. a depth of 13 miles and not much longer after that was the 2.0-magnitude, and you can see two major fault lines running through that region, calaveras and the san andreas fault, so clearly, this is an area that is quite earthquake-prone, as is the entire bay area but particularly here where the two falklands run so closely together. -- the two fault lines run so close together. kristen: thank you so much. real quickly, hollister police just told us that people are calling in to talk about this quake and ask about it, but so far, no reports of damage. larry: that is the best news of all. let's get to lauren martinez. you felt the quake. how much rumbling did you feel? lauren:

but i am joining you now from the historic downtown hollister district. this area was heavily damaged during the 1989 loma prieta earthquake, but no damage like that at all that we can see so far here in downtown hollister. we are about five miles from the epicenter, and we happened to find some people who were here in hollister and others who were closer to the epicenter in the ridge mark community. they felt a very strong shaking with very consistent reports from people who were closest to the epicenter. >> i was sitting at my computer and i started feeling the roof shaking in some of the photos fell off the wall. it was pretty intense for about 15, 20 seconds. >> reporter: a lot of us started. we were further away from the epicenter so we had that gentle rolling feel. those who were a lot closer to the epicenter, as you just heard, felt a lot stronger shaking. it was scary for some of the folks who have been writing out earthquakes in this area, juliette . as you know, this is a very seismically active area, but this one got a lot of attention. we have

we have been talking to more people here in downtown hollister. we will show you some of the older buildings that have been here since the 1870s and the early part of the 20th century. those were buildings that sustained heavy damage in the 1989 quake, and they have all been retrofitted. there is no damage to a lot of these buildings. but i want to take you across the street to the baylor. you see the wall of windows that were shaking, and some of the waitstaff inside were afraid they would shatter. but they held up throughout this. we will take you inside and show you fresh video that was just shot a few minutes ago showing a lot of the glassware that was on the shelves that came down, came crashing down and breaking inside the restaurant as the waitstaff was preparing for tonight's dinner. >> all the windows were shaking a bunch. i haven't felt that in a while. a few minutes later i am going to get white wine, and we needed to get it out of our fridge. there was a bunch of glasses that will fill when i opened it. all the glasses fell and broke.

it occurred five miles to the southeast of hollister. the did you feel it map, yeah, most of the "i felted" reports come from the immediate vicinity of the earthquake. but as we open up the map, you can see that it was felt through parts of the east bay and into san francisco , at least a mild rolling sensation. why was it felt so far away? it is because of where it occurred. we have outlined the san andreas and calaveras fault. those two run close together to where the earthquake was centered. it was not directly on the calaveras fault. it was one of the sub faults that runs off of it, but close enough that the shock was able to travel along both faults and be felt in the east bay and up the peninsula and into san francisco. we will take a look at the weather side of everything that has been happening today, which has mostly been very little. coming up, we will look at our rain chances for easter weekend. >>> the quake rattling a lot of nerves, including in our newsroom. anne makovec joins us now with a look at how people around the bay
