beth karas who is a former prosecutor and holly hughes who is also a former prosecutor. before we get to them, david mattingly reports on what happened in court today. >> casey anthony murder trial, the jury never got a chance to come into the courtroom. instead, the judge and the attorneys went into a closed door meeting, which is unusual because usually, they just go to a sidebar where they discuss whatever matters they need in front of everyone. this time they went behind closed doors with a court reporter to record the proceedings. what was said in there they would not reveal. but when the judge came out, he had this announcement for a very surprised courtroom. >> as both sides concur that a legal issue has arisen unrelated to the issue that we talked about, first thing this morning dealing with the doctor that would necessitate us recessing for today. >> what this legal issue might be no one is really sure because the judge did not elaborate, and none of the attorneys afterward would comment at all about this. but what we do know if it's something minor at the very

holly what can you tell us?porter: well, i'm on the eastern side of buena vista park by the tennis courts. sometime in the last hour a woman in a neighboring apartment building called to report smoke and a small fire. fire crews arrived and they thought it was just a trash can fire. but when they put it out, they discovered it was a body inside that trash can. crime scene tape sealed off the area. the coroner is here along with the homicide detectives. this is a very nice quiet park. so a lot of people sort of wondering, gee, what was going on in here with the discovery of a burned body in a trash can. >> fire department must have been shocked. you think you're coming on to just a trash fire or something like that and to discover a body -- that's -- that's, uhm, that's gut-wrenching. >> reporter: yeah. very unsettling and i talked to one of the battalion chiefs and he said it was a routine small trash can fire put it out and recognized what was in the can and decided to call the police and so now you have the in

holly, first of all, just looking at the charges and if he is found guilty, he was certainly accused to sell barack obama's senate seat there in illinois. he could go away for a very long time here. >> yes, he could. and the important thing to remember is this is the federal system. and there is no parole in the federal system. the judge will have to follow those. two most important things, mandatory sentencing guidelines and no parole. if in fact he's convicted and gets a sterngs he's going to have to serve that sentence. >> so the judge has no discretion? >> they have very little discretion. there will be a range. they could take other things into consideration, public service, his attorneys will do a presentencing report and put up all the things he should be given credit court. but the judge is hemmed in in the federal system within certain guidelines. >> why do you think so many people are angry about this case? >> this goes to the very heart of what this country was founded on. when you try to sell a senate seat, you are stealing the people's power, the power of the people in a
