holly williams is in cairo with that part of the story. holly? >> reporter: we've just watched the egyptian riot police move in and push protesters away from the u.s. embassy here in cairo. some of them threw stones at the police and they then responded by firing tear gas canisters into the crowd. but the egyptian authorities seem to be saying their tolerance for these demonstrations is limited. for the second night in a row, the crowd vented its anger outside the u.s. embassy. the protests began yesterday when thousands of conservative muslims marched on the compound, furious about a film they believe mock it is prophet mohammed, the worst insult in the islamic religion. a group of demonstrators scaled the embassy wall and succeeded in pulling down the american flag, tearing it to shreds and then setting it on fire. it was replaced briefly with the black flag favored by islamic militants. as egyptian riot police stood by and watched, the protests continued late into the night. producing that film will do you no good, they chanted. we will chop o

holly williams has been looking at the refugee crisis and at some recent victories by the rebels. >> reporter: for the syrian rebels, this is a trophy worth showing off: one of the regime's fighter jets. video posted online appears to show the aftermath of a crash and the pilot who lost his life. the rebels say they shot down the big 21 jet themselves along alongnother warplane and a aelicopter. if that's true, it's important because in syria's civil war the isernment is relying on its control of the air. iae syrian regime still has nearly all of the heavy weapons on its side-- like this tank. this video posted on the internet seems to show government soldiers firing on a residential area and then celebrating after hitting an apartment building. .he rebels appear to be making some gains against the regime, but the assad government continues to bombard its own people and here in refugee camp caturkey, r people who have been on the receiving end of those attacks. one of them is abdul kader hamo. he told us he fled here from his home in the city of aleppo after the regime shelled his ne

holly williams is in cairo this morning. holly, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. well the muslim brotherhood which is a powerful islamist group here in egypt has called for more demonstrations later on today. but we're already seeing crowds of young men out on the street, clashing with the police. i can smell the tear gas from seven stories up. we've been watching this happen for more than "48 hours". the egyptian police are using tear gas to try to disperse the protesters. the clouds of smoke seem to push the crowds back but they seem to be determined to stay on the street. for the last two days groups of young men armed with stones have clashed with security forces trying to secure a road that leads to the u.s. embassy. the demonstrations promised to be more organized and much bigger and the police know it. they've arreerected a ten-foot barricade. they promised to protect diplomatic embassies but they draw their support from conservative muslims and many of them are still furious about the u.s. made film that sparked these protests. the egyptian president muham

holly williams has reached one of the refugee camps just across the border in turkey. >> reporter: this camp is a refuge from fighting and from fear. conditions are basic, but the 8,000 syrians who live here know they've left the violence behind them. more than half of the refugees are children. inside this tent we found mohammed, essam, and three-year- old abdulrahman. they're alone here, they told us. two months ago their mother and father were killed in aleppo by government soldiers who ambushed the mini bus they were traveling in. "i saw the driver's jaw shot off" said essam. "and another man's hands blown away by a grenade." he told us his mother was killed by a bullet to the head. as abdulrahman sat in her lap. at ten years old, not all of essam's wounds are physical. mohammed, who's 11, was hit by shrapnel, and abdulrahman has a steel rod in his leg after the bone was shattered in the attack. the boys are now being cared for by friends and relatives, some of them children themselves. >> one, two, three, four. >> reporter: the turkish government is building new camps as fast as th

holly morris reports. >> reporter: good morning.day history lesson and there is no better way to learn history than to truly immerse yourself in it. let's start with this location. take a look at it. you are here in harpers ferry. it doesn't get any more beautiful than that. and it really is amazing when you start to think about the gravity of what happened here. but as you come through you get to learn in all different ways and if you listen very closely you might just hear the sounds of the magpie and that's where greg and terry come in. tell us about the significance of your sound and what you're adding to the event this weekend. >> terry and i do a lot of music around american history and we do an entire program on music from the civil war era. we have done a lot of work on music of the story of john brown. this time around we're focusing on the civil war and the battle of harpers ferry. rufus saxon the commander of the union troops. so our song help to illustrate the stories. >> reporter: somehow we remember the stories better

holly phillips. >> good morning. in today's "health watch," is it cold or flu?is peeking around the corner, the season is in full swing. when your symptoms start, it's important to know whether it's the common cold or the more serious illness influenza also known as the flu. your symptoms will give you the answer. the common cold usually starts with a sore throat lasting one or two days followed by a runny nose and congestion along with cough by the fourth and fifth day. it's worth taking out your thermometer. the common cold rarely causes a fever higher than 101. the flu tends to come on suddenly and like a mack truck. muscle aches, fatigue and soreness are the common signs. fooefers from 101 up to 103 in children. the flu lingers for ten days or so. if you think you've got the flu, see your doctor. antiviral medication can shorten the illness if started right away. complications such as pneumonia and bron kai tris are treated most easily when caught early. keep these things in mind for the perfect cold and flu iq. wash your hands and avoid people who are sick
