criminal defense attorney, holly hughes, is in atlanta. holly, a few of the potential jurors said they know little about this case. do you believe that? >> well, it depends on their age. if they're younger, it is a little harder to believe because it was all over social media. there were a lot of protests on facebook that were posted. a lot of twittering about it. but if you are talking about an older generation an people who aren't necessarily using social media so much, it could be believable. but sanford is not a huge city like new york city, so i fine it a little odd when they say i didn't know what was going on right here in my own hometown. >> then what does that mean? you think these potential jurors are lying? >> well, it's possible. let's remember, don, something that happened in jury selection this past week was one of the jurors answered the questionnaire, answered the lawyers' and judge's questions and said i don't know anything about this case within don't follow it, i don't have an opinion. they be they went behind him and loo

criminal defense attorney holly hughes is here.y for the defendant marcellus peters claims the defendant's dna from a beer can used to -- and a condom found at the crime scene that the wind -- what happened? what's going on with the wind? >> what he's alleging is the wind carried the suspect's dna from the beer can to the condom. >> okay. >> the problem is they probably typed it and found out whether it's saliva or another bodily fluid. you're going to get blown out of the water with that if the dna analyst was able to determine what type of bodily fluid it was. secondarily, the other problem the defense faces is that some of the co-defendants are going to testify and say, yes, they did participate in the rape. this young man was part of the rape. the whole transferring the dna isn't going to carry weight when co-defendants say, yeah, he was there and did it. furthermore, those co-defendants testifying got 25 years apiece. it's not like they got a sweetheart deal to turn on the guy. >> let's stick with the wind thing. this is the m

ryan smith joining us today alongside holly hughes. good to see you.ation, continue watching what's happening playing out in sanford, florida. i want to talk about a couple things that this key witness, rachel jeantel had mentioned. she was basically describing, this was yesterday, it started yesterday and came back today during cross-examination. she was, as you pointed out, she was an ear witness. she was relaying to the courtroom what trayvon martin had said to her in describing who we now know was george zimmerman because he believed he was being followed and so he called him a crazy, well today it was a crazy, creepy cracker. >> uh-huh. >> something to that effect. the issue is the word cracker. >> right. >> she said that this was -- that he was being targeted because it was a race thing, but then she said the word cracker, itself, wasn't racial. did you hear that. >> yeah. it made total sense to me. you know why? a lot of black folks all over the country, a lot of southern folks, nothing wrong with that statement. there is a cultural divide that

holly hughes is here. nearly two dozen witnesses have been called by the state. witnesses who seem to have been turned by the defense. >> that's exactly right. the prosecution came out very strong with their opening statement. they laid it out in graphic detail. they used the defendant's own words against him. then the defense makes the huge blunder. telling a joke in a murder trial is never appropriate. after that it was not smooth sailing for the prosecution. this is their case in chief. in any criminal case prosecution has the burden of burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt. they have charged second-degree murder here. they have to prove those elements. they have to prove that george zimmerman acted with a depraved mind. witness after witness seems to back up his version. the lady from the neighborhood watch association got on the send. she called him meek. she said he is great and looks out for all the neighbors and gets along with everybody and such a wonderful man. we wanted him to be head of neighborhood watch. we wanted him to be the captain. john goo
