[laughter] but any temptation to sort of court hollywood? no, but the horror stories are still there. you write a screenplay, or you write a play. you can't write a play hoping that another medium is gonna pick it up, 'cause i thick you probably do damage to what you intend, because you always have it in the back of your mind: "i better do this or better not do this so the movies will be interested." no, you can't do that. that is a form of censorship, self-censorship, which is far more dangerous in our democracy than outside censorship still. uh, no. and i didn't want to write screenplays because you don't own what you write in hollywood. you don't own the copyright. you can be fired from your own screenplay. and so, no, i've stayed away from that. the only other play of mine made into a movie that i will admit to-- though somebody made something they called the ballad of the sad café, but don't look at it if you can find it-- was a delicate balance, which was again a very good film made by the american film theater without any attempt to a

hollywood health & society works with script writers and producers to get accurate health portrayals into television, film, and new media. so one thing we're doing, going back to the earlier conversation, we're using a transmedia approach, old and new media, so that when we do get an accurate tv health storyline on addiction, we then work with a group like samhsa to develop the script for psa and a dramatic plot point spin and storyline refer viewers to credible sources of information through web links or call-in hotline numbers. and a lot of times, we refer viewers to web sites where they can actually generate their own content and tell their own stories and have a conversation with other people in similar situations. and often these messages go viral, and then it really takes off around the world. so that's one approach. the hollywood health & society has a partnership with the writers guild of america, west and we work with writers to connect them to experts. so we could take a recovering addict or alcoholic in to meet with the writers. we might take a physician, a clinician, or a

and hollywood health & society consulted on that. we had a psychiatrist consult. the show actually sent us, they sent us the script ahead of time. in fact, they sent us the rough edits. so we sat with a psychiatrist in our office for a second round to review every episode, which is very rare for a network to do and they did an excellent job. we then collaborated with samhsa to develop a public service announcement. we got permission and samhsa helped us develop a script. and this psa featured this gorgeous young actress who was the woman with bipolar disorder in the story referring young people to a special landing page, a web site. and we tracked the traffic. there were huge spikes the day of the show and the day after this psa aired. and kids actually could enter discussion threads. and there were some really heart-breaking stories in there; kids who said, "i've been telling my parents for 2 years there's something wrong with me; now i know i have bipolar disorder, they don't believe me." well, in this case it was one of samhsa's partner groups, they had trained
