because of the gigantic fear of that fire crossing hollywood boulevard. if it does that, that fire is now raging in the center of a major urban area per go it's both residential and very urban, very business-oriented area. it would be the equivalent of that fire breaking out in manhattan. that's the kind of area that is in los angeles, and as we continue through this coverage tonight, one of the situations that's a challenge for people is that they literally now, on evacuation, after the hollywood hills fire has broken out, there is now confusion in los angeles about which way to go. people have felt, prior to this time, had been feeling more confident heading away from the ocean inland but that's where the hollywood hills fire is now. there has been a lot of evacuation southward from los angeles. that's the direction my loved ones talk today when they were ordered to evacuate. they've gone south, toward the airport. a lot people are going south, toward the airport and beyond that. the trouble is, some people trying to find a place beyond the airport have

it's not that far from hollywood boulevard and mulholland drive.you know the area, it has burned nearly 20 acres. people are being told to evacuate. of course, it's a very dense area. as you look at live pictures now, you can see the night just lit up by the flames that are burning in the hollywood hills. it is spreading. it's about 20 acres now, but you can see it is fairly ferocious and there are a lot of homes, very densely populated area there. there are also three major wildfires that are pushing firefighters to the very limit. they barely have enough people to do what they need to do. the palisades fire is the largest. that's at nearly 16,000 acres. it has damaged or destroyed more than a thousand buildings, many of them homes. the eaton fire has killed at least five people. that's near pasadena. it has burned more than 10,000 acres. and then there's the hurst fire, up by sylmar. that one has burned 850 acre acres. it is truly an apocalyptic nightmare in southern california. tonight, the city of oakland, as we talk about uh- coming up here in

it's burning toward hollywood boulevard. at least 20 acres have burned so far. and now this is adding more strain on already strained resources. firefighters have been at work for more than 24 hours tackling the palisades fire and pacific palisades. the eaton fire, which started last night, that one already being blamed for at least five deaths. that fire is in the community of altadena, which is north of the very famous pasadena. more than 10,000 acres have burned. officials estimating 500 buildings have also burned. pacific palisades the original blaze that started in the morning yesterday. officials say at least 1000 structures have been lost, with the fire chief admitting that they do not have enough manpower for an emergency of this size. homeowners rightfully frustrated, devastated. we'll get through it. we'll build another home. will we go? but we lost. we lost all of the things. that's the part. they're smaller photographs. there's no fire department. there's no. there's no help here. and all i need is a little bit of liquid on the side of this house to
