i think we should be anti-homeless. people are not house less and don't have a place that homelessness makes feel people left out. homeless means they didn't have a right. the statute of liberty tells us that you do have a place to be here. i think word should be anti-homeless. i went to the board of supervisors we've seen some pictures of women in the restroom and it was disturbing and reminded me as 12 years as a slave and we don't know where you got those pictures. the library is a place where you can go to read about homophobia, xenophobia and anything. the library is always the learning tree and i go there every first and third they have the library commission that meet there and they give us 3 minutes like you all. the board of supervisors are the only ones that need to catch up. instead of 2 minutes you know it's important to give people time to make they are points to give them locations and giving them two 2 minutes is not enough. 3 minutes is more appropriate for people with disabilities and the library. i kno

there is a lot of homelessness, a lot of folks who may not necessarily be homeless but still have a high need. they maybe sro residents and maybe in need of programs. we see a lot of blight, a lot of violence, we see domestic violence in the streets. we see assaults and all levels of violence that are impacting residents and visitors on the street. i would also add that recently i know that's been kind of a point of discussion amongst different bodies in the city but pedestrian safety has been a huge area of concern. in fact last year there was a gentleman who was wondering around the center of market street and struck by a vehicle and i don't think he was of a sound state at that time and because of that was basically walking head on to another vehicle thachls just one example of how there is really like i said a lot of activity in this corridor of market street. in terms of how we choose to deal with that, ambassadors are well trained. we are the first tier of support. as we provide services to all members of the public regardless of whether they are homeless or businessmen or women. t

greg also marvels at the shelters his homeless neighbors construct out of materials they fine fines. a couple of years ago greg gathered those materials and built one himself. that was that. or so he thought. until one rainy night a homeless woman knocked on greg's door asking for a tarp. >> i didn't have a tarp. i'm sorry. i went back in. i went past my home. what am i doing with this. i ran back outside. i said come back tomorrow. i'll have a home. as soon as i gave it away it felt so good. oh, wow these people are so happy. so throw in a couple of screws. >> reporter: greg decided to do it again, and again, and again. with then of a rotating cast of volunteer, greg has now built more than a dozen homes for the homeless. all are on wheels. all made solely out of the material greg pulls each morning from those trash piles. and all are destined to make a homeless neighbor's life a little drier, a little safer and judging by the look on kelly's face a whole lot happier. kelly says she has not had a roof over her head for 19 years. but will tonight thanks to greg. >> a lot of happiness

many of these tenants have been forced to move away from san francisco and others have become homeless. as public defender, i've seen the impact that these evictions have had on our city's poorest residents. we represent about 20,000 people every year. one of the areas that we are experiencing the largest number evictions among our clients is section 8 housing. many of the residents are being evicted without having any access to legal services and without knowledge of their rights. it is very frustrating to me because we can only provide representation as to the criminal process, not to these other essential areas. now, in san francisco, the city does provide funding to agencies that does provide representation to those who needy vix assistance, and obviously the mayor's office of housing brian chew is ~ chu is here as well jeff barkley. the reality is there are a dozen lars who are funded to focus on evictions. and we estimate that at least ~ twice the number of lawyers is needed to meet the demand that's been identified just by the budget analyst to deal with unlawful detainer and ev
