, the police department assigned additional resources, which included the solo motorcycles, our honda unit, the gang task force, the violence reduction team, the station officers, and the housing unit officers which are assigned to the housing development and to alameda county. the purpose of the additional resources was to conduct a general law enforcement, provide a sense of security for the community, improve the quality of life for the residents, provide a visible police presence, and to provide community outreach. the house and officers who are dedicated end known to the community are in the community, and interact with the residents on a daily basis. they are approachable, and have provided community members with alternative means of communicating any information they need to these officers. in addition to the current resources, in april of 2012, the station did plan and an operation in sunnydale. while the officers are deployed, they are given a daily mission. these daily missions provide the officer with a focus as the patrol and interact with the community. i know this is hard to

honda: thank you, madam chair. next week marks the launch of the 19th international aids conference. bringing together advocates and leaders from all over the world. the conference's presence in the united states for the first time in 20 years is a testament to the hard work that members of the hiv-aids community, including many in my district, and my colleagues in congress, like my dear friend, barbara lee, have done. in the 20 intervening years we have for the first time in a generation seen infection rates go down within the united states and stabilize abroad. despite these steps, however, it is clear that we are still losing the war to keep minority communities. rising infection rates in the african-american, latino, asian, gay, and lease beian communities are a stark -- lesbian communities are a stark reminder our work is not done. it is critical that our nation's capital is hosting this event as it is the epicenter of this rising problem. washington, d.c., has a higher hiv-aids infection rate than most places in africa, primarily in the minority communities. from legislative action to grassroots efforts, now is the time for more commitment to h.i.v. and aids not less. more advocac
