that's what we saw in hong kong. very much following what was beginning on in europe in just the last hour of trading today. the australian market down 1.6%. not surprising, uncertainty outweighing concern. the nikkei down 2.2% closing at 8590 yen. and that is its lowest close so far this year. take into account the march 11th earthquake. we've now reached a new low here today on the uncertainties about the global outlook, japan being such an export-dependent economy, of course. down from the start of the year to the bottom, down by 16%, charles, so far this year. >> oh, yes. not pretty. well, meanwhile, the u.s. markets remember were closed for the labor day holiday on monday. so they're playing catch up with this route right across europe and asia. and this is what u.s. futures stand in the premarket action. off by around 1.5 to 1.66%. in the case of the s&p 500, a loss of around 2%. just onmarket, things might change depending on what happens in european trading and whether this small rally continues. >> gold pric

he at one point went from hong kong to japan to recuperate.the one that wanted to be an artist and wanted to paint. i thought about that because it must have been hard growing up in hong kong to be far away from everything and have a dream and get sick at this point. i thought u is there a story here? that's the way it begins for writers. people think things jump out and we have it in our head. it's the opposite we have nothing in our head. we turn on the machine and praying for something to come. with women of the silk i researched for 6 amongs and read and read and read. in one book i found 2 lines about the woman silk workers and knew immediately that's hai wanted to write about. it came to me like a dream that every writer prays for that you just knew you wanted to write about this. with the second book it was difficult i sat down and didn't know what i was going to write for about 6 months. which was fearful for me because of the fact i knew i didn't have the second book. steven's story, i asked myself questions. a lot of writers do that

but look at what hong kong had to deal with. we have a video coming up from hong kong just today. it has brought tremendous damages as you can see here. the effects of typhoon nesat caused strtural damage. a lot of transportation has been suspended or canceled. the storm forced people to shut schools, courts and government offices so people are trying to clear up this mess right over here in hong kong. now as you can see, it's a large storm. typhoon nesat is going to be sweeping through hainan fairly quickly in a speed of 20 kilometers per hour and then towards the gulf of tanking it will downgrade and then make another landfall in northern vietnam, perhaps friday evening. as it travels over land, it looks like it's going to be downgrading into a tropical depression. but even though it's going to be downgrading, the accumulation of rainfall is going to be staggering. we have reports of 167 millimeters in hainan, additional of another 250 in western seaboards of hainan can be accumulated. a total of up to about 400 millimeters in just by, just from this storm in hainan. and souther
