we have fox's steve harrigan live on the ground in honolulu.et me begin with you, looks like, i don't want to tempt fate, hurricane lane weakening just a bit but should we still consider it a dangerous storm? >> we've had so much rain from it already. over 30 inches on the big island. the west side, windward side, where you generally get that, that is where most of the flooding pictures we've seen come from. we always knew this would weaken as it moves towards the north. maybe it weaken ad little more dramatically today than we thought it would. that is certainly good news. rain spread out all the way across the hawaiian island chain. that is center ever the storm. but the eyewall we saw yesterday, collapsing in on itself. i don't think we have any chance of regaining any of that energy. we still have hurricane warnings for oahu and maui. that has been downgraded to tropical storm warnings for the big island as over cords kauai. we'll see winds get worse this afternoon and this evening across maui and primarily oahu. take a look at this. this i

we received new pictures from their meetings with honolulu firefighters. meteorologist lisa argen is back with what we can expect. >> good morning, everyone. this has been downgraded to a tropical storm, but still several days of rainfall is anticipated with this, skirting the hawaiian island chain. so as i put this into motion, we get the current conditions right now with winds of about 60 meils an hour just crawling along three, and you'll notice by tomorrow it continues on its westward track, that left-hand turn, but boy, the wet part of the storm just drenching hilo with record amounts of rain. so that island really getting the worst of it with over 44.8 inches of rainfall. so that's an all-time record and the wettest august ever, the three-day rainfall totals there and oahu could see three to five inches and maui could see half a foot. so the flash flooding continues and we're looking at the possibility of some mud slides as well. so the big island certainly getting the worst of it, but still at least another day and a half of rain. the wind threat is

. >> on hand in honolulu to helwi the menlo park fire protection district. we received these pictures of their meetings yesterday with honolulu firefighters. meteorologist lisa argen is back with more on what we can expect from the storm and lisa, so much to talk about here. >> yes, that's right, chris. the main thing is that this now has been downgraded to a tropical storm. so we're looking at the hurricane watches and warnings being dropped. tropical storm advisories for maui and the big island. so we're looking at things that are continuing to improve, but in terms of the rainfall, not so much because we are looking at some very heavy rain. we've seen over 42 inches of rain in hilo and three-day records here and that will allow for some mud slides and certainly with the higher elevations there. 65 mile an hour winds right now and as this takes a left-hand turn we'll continue to see this weaken 40 miles an concerned about. it's the rainfall that continues to stack up and some of the different rainfall estimates are bringing in three to five inches of addit

gray is in honolulu let's give you an update on conditions here in honolulu right now we've seen the wind intensify at times the search been growing for hours here the rain's been on and off we're getting a break from it right now but this system has slowed down a bit and that means the worst of conditions from hurricane lane we will feel those here for quite some time across the island chain though we've seen severe flooding that a result of driving range as well as a bit of storm surge and winds of not downed power lines so you've got some without power here and it's a situation that's going to continue for the next several days here this is a huge and slow moving storm at this point if here once the rain begins in earnest we expect to see it for one four to thirty six hours if that's the case we're going to see severe flooding in some of the low lying areas officials warning those who are writing this to make sure they have enough food water and medicine for fourteen days it could take teams a full two weeks to get into some of those hardest hit areas. the un is calling on latin a
