she became the first person to fly solo from honolulu, hawaii, to the california mainland. other people had flown but in either pairs or more people in the plane. she was the first one to do it sole so. and then after this she was criticized because some people just thought, you know, she's just out there trying to get publicity. well, it's true and she's also trying to earn a living. but they also said this was free advertising for the sugar plantation people and what's the point of her flying an airplane like this, and it's just too dangerous. and in fact many people of course had died trying to do this as well. but she said i wanted the flight just to contribute. i could only hope one more passage across that part of the pacific would mark a little more clearly the pathway over which an air service of the future will inevitably fly, and of course she was right. later that year she made a record of flights from los angeles to mexico city in april, and then from mexico city to newark, new jersey, in may. she won the second harmon trophy. that last flight was at 3,100 miles

host: we will go to kyle from honolulu. caller: aloha. mr.arris, i was wondering if i textbook/a more understandable definition of what isolation is, meaning the official definition and what it means to isolate. when do you know you half to isolate? you very much. guest: a how to you. is textbook definition somebody who has tested positive for a particular disease is kept separated from other people so they do not transmit that disease to other individuals, as opposed to quarantine, where you have people who might have the you are not sure they are going to have it. you do not want to take chances, so you isolate those folks. the reason why we differentiate is you do not want to put the quarantined person with the isolated person. even if they did not have the disease, they may catch it at that point. we want to keep those folks separated. another term people ask about is social distancing, which is about the physical separation of people as well as a in terms of time. virus estimating this comes out in droplets and spreads about six feet. th
