she had no idea this morning that she was the district's seven honoree. if i gave her two or three weeks to prepare these remarks, i would undoubtedly be thoroughly embarrassed with personal stories. you only have a couple of minutes, say what you want to say. this is your chance to get me. [laughter] >> i am in shock that sean did this. it means a lot to me because he is not only my boss, but he is my fifth -- he is like family to me. when you come from another country, your friends are your family to you in. it is not just from my work, it is also personal. i am very honored and privileged to have the opportunity to work with, in my opinion, one of the best supervisors that the city will ever see. i want to thank my friends and my family for totally taking me off guard. thank you very much and i hope you will see plenty more of supervisor elsbernd for years to come. i did not realize that when we added you to our list of honorees.hree of you are very involved and very committed to creating a better society. when i mention this to phil, a member of your congregation, and i believe his children attend your religious school, he used a word that stands for "repairing the world." i want to honor all three of you for your work, not just with your families and businesses, but trying to repair the world, making it a better place. i am happy that you will receive these awards carry -- these awards. [applause] >> well, thank you, ms. what occurred -- whitacre. i read your bio, so i understand you have other skills i might need like hypno- >> of the community clean team gathered in district 11. after the rally, the mayor and the supervisor at 20 teams went to work at a new mold around young trees. school children worked with adults while the youngest volunteers were entertained. the bill planters and learned about waste reduction. led by the department of public works, the main focus was on a tree maintenance. the city is looking at the health of the new trees, making sure they are able to stand on their own. this year's arbor day was dedicated to the memory of an environmental activist they used the planting as a community building a

[applause] when thinking of this year's theme, women's education, women's economic strength and empowerment, i cannot think of a more fitting honor read and melissa. she's about economic strength and women's empowerment. i first learned of her past accomplishments at an annual dinner. she's a managing partner and one of the three original co- founders along with two other women of asia alternatives, and asian private equity fund to funds providing investment opportunities in asia. despite a chorus of knows, she has grown asia alternative since 2006 to be an organization with over $2 billion in assets under management with investments across asia. japan, southeast asia, australia and japan. you will recognize some of the large investors, including calpers, ontario municipal retirement fund, pennsylvania state

[applause] >> and i heard the supervisor kim has joined us. thank you for being here. >> i look at david and jan and i would not be here if it were not for them. you have heard the professional side of it. 20 years ago, i was a very young reporter in montgomery, alabama, and our -- they decided, they had come out to san francisco and decided that they needed someone that looked just like her, and i was the only one in the newsroom in montgomery, alabama that look like her. do you know they forced me to do this show, and that started me on my road to coming out to san francisco and the bay area to live and work here and become part of the community. i thank jan for that. i had no idea who she was, but that is how i got my start in the coming out to california. on a quick personal note, 10 years ago, she says she works out, but she really just kind of talk to people on the machine at certification, asked a fellow should in london, a

all of our honorees are receiving certificates from members of the board of supervisors, nancy pelosi. i am going through my list. i want to thank you at all. rose. >> the organization of the year award goes to an incredible organization -- sage. standing against global exploitation project. the project is a nonprofit with the primary aim of bringing an end to human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children and adults. sage continues to this goal by providing treatment services for survivors. it was founded in 1992. norma devoted her life to end the sex trade in the u.s.. i saw her in action and she was an amazing women. in 2004, it led to a california law that allows prosecutors to charge pimps with child abuse if the prostitute a minor. please join me in giving a big congratulations to standing against global exploitation project. [applause] >> this year, our next honoree broke barriers -- tonight, we honor bay area fashion week.signers, 40 models, and the finest designs, celebrating our art means celebrating our story. it is a documented, and as our designers showcase, this year we saw the first ever bay area fashion week. the event was made at a charity fashion extravaganza, hosted in the south bay. the san francisco bay area filipino-american communities eludes this milestone, a legacy of art, fashion, and the filipina solis ready to wear. >> here are the representatives of the bay area fashion week.
