edward horgan is a former un peacekeeper who joins us from limerick ireland. we also have fra huws, journalist, author and activist who joins us from antalia. welcome to you both. edward horgan, let me first start with you, given the fact that you worked in your former capacity as a un peacekeeper, what are your thoughts about how so many un employee and staff have actually been killed in this war, and as you watch the massaker that's unfolding, it's appalling, particularly how many un direct employees have been killed in gaza, i suppose the important thing is there are solutions to this dreadful problem, if you wish i can just read out. a few moments, i had letter published in several irish newspapers today, in fact, it's along the following lines, un control of gaza, the catastrophic situation in gaza cannot be allowed to continue, it has continued since 1948 and the involving the suffering of the palestinian people. the most recent israeli attacks on gaza have been totally disproportionate and have been in clear breach of international laws. especially the

horgan with us at the moment, we're going to go back to uh ashraf, now ash we were going to ask about what you mentioned earlier of how this war has been uh focused on attacking hospitals, it's been focused on destroying the uh the medical infrastructure and apparatus in uh in the gaza strip, hamas officials it stated that this was one of the uh the intended goals by these israeles to carry out what is being called another nat in in the gaza. can you explain that for us please and help us better understand what exactly happened? yes, i'll give you an example, back in the uh early 15, 1600s, when europeans came to united states, they brought with them spolpacks and other diseases, because the the native people, could not deal with such diseases, now israel is doing something similar, they stop. the running, there's no more running water, sewing system has collapsed, drinking water is polluted, basically they want to exterminate the people of gaza, they want to get rid of them by spreading disease, you spread the disease, you destroy hospitals, you destroy the health sector, you got it,

former un peacekeeper uh edward horgan joins us now from uh limrook ireland. sir, welcome to the program. uh, first of all i want to get your perspective on uh uh the uh humanitarian pause, which is now in its sixth day uh in the initial stages uh when this deal was reached, many saw it as a failure for the uh israeli regime. i want to get your thoughts on that as well, also about the uh the situation with regards to the uh humanitarian. um uh catastrophe that is unfolded uh in the gaza strip at this point? yes, i think it's not sufficient just to extend the humanitarian sease fire, for number of days, that will be at best inadequate. i think it's vital that a permanent ceasefire and permanent peace be established in gaza, and in all of palestine and israel. um what we have seen and what we are seeing at the moment uh is huge risk and not just risk but it's actually happening the um destruction of the environment and the the risk of serious health epidemics which will kill many people in a matter of days so it's just another temporary sease fire for a couple o

well um edward horgan and conclusion here we're back to almost square one where uh something needs to be done and i'm i'm curious as to why we can't even get uh some kind of way to make sure that uh the supplies that are necessary for the basic survival whether it's a humanitarian level in terms of the basic needs or a medical level where there's obvious need for uh that a huge scale we understand that some kids have actually been a allowed to be transported through the rafa border crossing and then taken to uh dubai, but aside from that there needs to be a constant stream of medical supplies and even fuel, and the fuel that's been allowed in is a trickle, why can't even that aspect of this war been solved and for that to have happened? clearly it can be solved, international red cross has not been adequately doing its job, there are ships available all over europe, european union and otherwise and among the arab states that could take in supplies and i think the arab states also have a responsibility and the other muslim states to protect their fellow religious and fellow ethnic comm
