joey horta joins us live now in pinole with the latest development. joey >> well, investigators are calling this guys a tragic case of domestic violence. the suspect is caught on camera fleeing from the scene after police say that he broke into the woman's home and shot her on a close knit cul de sac in pinole. tragedy has struck. >> it's incredibly startling and unnerving, so, um, everyone here is really, really shaken up. >> pinole police say a woman was shot and killed friday in her basement apartment in this home on summit drive. >> it just sad that this happened in our neighborhood. and you never think it's going to happen in your neighborhood. and it does. >> police say 36 year old jeremy kendall broke in through a window and attacked the woman. when officers arrived around 845 friday morning and found her with at least one gunshot wound already dead. her toddler son was home at the time from a child. she shares with kendall. >> this is a tragic case of domestic violence and investigators say kendall is caught on a neighbor's ring camera running

joey horta joining us live from our newsroom with the details. he just learned. joey. yeah. >> christina. we just heard back from chp. they tell me now, this whole thing started when they got a call about a pedestrian on the freeway. and when the officer arrived, that officer got into a struggle with the suspect. that's when chp says the officer opened fire and shot the suspect. the shooting happened on 280 south near 20th street in san francisco. so just after 430 this afternoon, right before rush hour, all lanes are back open. now, after being shut down for more than four hours, there. we're now learning officers found a knife at the scene, which they believe belongs to the suspect. chp says the suspect was rushed to the hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. now, neither the suspect nor the officer has been identified. we are told this is an ongoing investigation. christina. joey thank you for that update. >> much more tonight on the storm passing through northern california. the rain causing concern for overflow at the state's dams. later tonight, new v
