housing production. we are united with tenants with rent control and with those of us fighting for permanent affordability. if this proposal were serious about affordable housing it would look at the 550 units that are lost every year in condo conversions and compare that to the 200, 300 at the best of affordable housing that we build per year. you would see the nexus as the difference between that and you would say what would one for one replacement of rent controlled housing look like. and then you would look at what the mayor's office of housing puts out and say for a one unit building being converted to a condominium you'd pay a fee of 175,000 or more to replace that unit as permanently affordable housing. a three bedroom, you'd pay a fee of 374,000. that might be fair. that might get to a nexus of one per one replacement. if you were serious about helping t.i.c. owners who are facing financial and mortgage issues, you would address that directly through those homeowners and the banks and the problem

housing. we bought our two bedroom t.i.c. unit in october 2007. it was the only type of property we were able to afford at that time. now, the times have changed. five years and two kids later, we're in need of a different home. we tried selling our t.i.c. unit in september last year, and -- how initially attracted potential buyers were quickly turning away upon learning our unit was a t.i.c. we're not in it to make money. many buyers are afraid of t.i.c.s. and are willing to pay higher prices for the more familiar condominium type property. as most of our savings are locked in our property we feel very trapped and unable to move to a bigger house or a bigger apartment with two kids. if we were able to sell our t.i.c. property, we would be able to afford the bigger home in san francisco. by not allowing us to convert to condo, the city is not only losing the proposed conversion fee, but also the the tax from the two potential property sales of our current unit and the future unit. please help

to my sheer surprise and shock among the house never -- surprise and shock, the house never took it up. i have never seen that before in my life, where the speaker of the house would not think that the 16 alien people that work in -- 16 million people that work in agriculture across america were not important enough to bring a five-year farm bill to the floor. that was the worst part of all of this. it creates the situation of trying to figure out how we go around the house that will not take up the bill. we did end up with an extension that was different than was agreed to by the four leaders. that was also done at the very last minute by senator mcconnell leading the way. he had voted against the farm bill, even though he agreed to bring it to the floor. he was clearly protecting the interests of those who want to keep the big government subsidies. the extension we wanted that would have extended every part of the farm bill shaved off 2.5% from direct payments, the government subsidies that go to farmers, regardless of whether they need it. that was something that leader mcconnell wo

house republicans have met in conference. house democrats met in conference. house democrats just tell their conference and we're waiting on the republicans potentially to come out and hold one as well. the cameras are set up but no one has come out as of yet. the cbo released their report on the cost of the bill passed by the senate last night saying that nearly $4 trillion in added deficits in the next nine years, $330 billion in new spending over the next nine years as well. from new jersey, a democrat, hello. caller: hello. thank you for taking my call. i think they should just increase the revenue and take their time the next few months to go over these spending cuts. it would take a lot longer. the other thing i would suggest is the senate was easier to work with because they are not subject to gerrymandering. one last prank, but when i went to college 40 or 50 years ago when we studied economics, we talked about a regressive tax system and now, somewhere, they are just talking about that in the speech. they're fighting against the tax increase for the w

if the house amends that bill they will not touch it. they'll relitigate this somehow in the new congress. >> woodruff: is it the case that most republicans in the house are against this? are you able to get a read on how widespread the opposition is? >> it is the case that most house republicans are against it. that doesn't mean that all would vote against it. the dynamic you have here now is fairly broad support from democrats in the house. leader nancy pelosi and other democratic leaders calling for an up-or-down vote on the senate-passed bill. that tells you something. that tells you that if speaker boehner and leader cannottor put it on the floor and can muster enough votes, 40 or 50 which doesn't look great for them, that democrats will provide the rest of the power to get it to 217. >> woodruff: but it sounds like from the speaker has been saying he doesn't want to do that. he doesn't want to see the bill pass with a minority of republican votes. is that correct? >> he has said that in the past. and one thing that we will see duri
