this house armed services committee has done a good job. they have repurposed over $40 billion in the bill and redirected it more efficiently. this is a bipartisan collaborative process between chairman rogers and ranking member smith who have worked well together whether one was in the majority or one was in the minority. as alum of this distinguished committee is doing a pretty good job of trying to find the savings that my friend i know wants to find and redirect. i wouldn't say disagree but put things in perspective when we talk about spending. i have been around this stuff for a long time and my dad was in the cold war. the united states spent 50% of its entire budget on defense and 9% of its gross national product because it thought that's what the threat was. and then, you know cold war wayneed, we came down. reagan defense bill, at that point defense was a third of the total federal budget, not half and was about 6% of the gross national product. currently, it's less than 4%, 3.7%. i would say that is probably too low and only 15% o
