. >> as a student of the white house what is your reaction when the press corp sometimes gets caught up in these nonstory stories? >> the problem is they're not only nonstories because the press is looking for something to write about but also people want to know what's going on behind the scenes, the fences, behind the doors. and it really gives an insight into the human beings living there. these people actually do have ups and downs over the course of their lives. they have deaths in their family, they have marriages, they have births in their family and people want to understand that as well. unfortunately, sometimes the human interestical trump what the policymaker or in this case the first lady is trying to say, which is let's focus on something we can change not what's just interesting. >> from a family dynamic the bush white house was always filled with children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. there were lots of toys around the white house. it was really a family oriented place. occasionally there were some stories not so pleasant for the families, and some of our viewers remember rumors of th

answer pretty simple questions from the white house press corps, it seems like we're living in an alternate universe. i was reading a washington post story and they talked to lindsey graham about this. lindsey graham said i'm from south carolina and what i learned is if you fly the confederate flag -- this isn't an exact quote -- but if you fly the confederate flag that's not good for business. i don't think being able to -- i don't think that if you can't actually say you know what, the confederate flag is a symbol of hate for a lot of people in this country and probably it's time for it to come down, if you can't even be that wishy-washy about it, and lindsey graham knows that the confederate flag is bad for business, the confederate flag is bad for growing your base also. it still comes back to the election, it comes back to 2020. and in her tortured response the way i got that is i don't want to alienate anyone right now. but you're not bringing anyone into your corner if that is how you have to answer those questions from peter alexander and jonathan carl. >> the president got a great jobs number, the country got a great jobs number
