the house republicans is not acceptable to the far reaches of the house republicans. how do you see this all coming together? >> well, actually they are not very far apart. they are agonizingly close. but the problem is, the sort of psychological dynamics almost of this. just as nothing that barack obama, the president of the united states would propose could possibly be acceptable to the tea party wing in the house, so too anything that the senate comes up with, even including anything the senate comes up where mitch mcconnell is in concert with harry reid. that by definition is unacceptable to house republicans, many of them. what they are looking for now and trying to throw the staff members under the bus and labor union language and language about you can't try any tricks at the treasury department in the future, all of that stuff is designed to prevent them agreeing when in fact the two sides in many respects are very close. the republicans basically -- the tea party has already lost essentially on obama care. the whole game here was to try to seriously delay or

president at the white house.nd everything could hinge on what happens there. senate democrats just left the white house after their meeting, and senate republicans will head over tomorrow morning. now over in the house, gop leaders announced this morning that they'll offer a bill authorizing a temporary increase in the debt ceiling if the president will agree to substantive negotiations on other fiscal matters. >> what we want to do is to offer the president today the ability to move a temporary increase in the debt ceiling in agreement to go to conference on the budget for his willingness to sit down and discuss with us a way forward to reopen the government. >> yep. you heard it right. this quote/unquote deal would not even open the government. it would simply allow the government to pay its bills until november 22nd. in other words, the gop won't release the hostage, but they may agree not to shoot the hostage until around thanksgiving. but if speaker boehner can get the conversation he so desperately wants, w

the senate plan doesn't extract ran some according to this white house. the house plan does. i think that is the crux of the issue. if the house can dispense with a delay of that tax, we might be heading towards some sort of deal. also interesting to note what we also heard from jay carney during an briefing when it comes to the debt ceiling, jay carney said during that briefing the i'm for unsent has passed. basically, what the white house is signaling at had point and something that harry reid said on the senate floor earlier today is that we may be in sort of this danger zone, this red zone now. we've gotten too close to the debt ceilinging to avoid any kind of ramifications in the short term, a credit downgrade, what have you. it was curious to note jay carney using that sort of language. he was kicking everything over to the treasury department in terms of prioritizationsization. jay would only say prioritizationsization, picking and choosing which bills to pay after the debt ceiling when they've run out of borrowing authority, priorization equals default. he wouldn't sa
