house. what made you want to look at abraham lincoln's white house visits with african americans? and write a book about that? >> yeah, so, it started in 2014. i don't know why but for some reason in 2014 i started collecting letters from african americans to lincoln. i wanted to do a book that i was going to call, emphatically the black man's president, i forget american correspondents and conversations with abraham lincoln. i realized very quickly that i had so many letters and so many conversations that were recorded between black men and women in lincoln that it was more than i could do in a single book. and so, in 2011, a couple months ago, i published this book here, to address you as my friend, african americans letters to abraham lincoln with the north carolina press. i did the letters as one book and that i wanted to write a narrative history with the conversations, and so i took all of those and then turned it into a house built by slaves. >> so, you've got two books. two books tha
