and we are now going to go to the event in houston. houston. >>> thank you. before i can even start, on behalf of myself, my husband, and my family, i have to thank you all for embracing support that you have given me. good evening. my name is andrea. and i live in san antonio, texas. in the fall of 2022 after many prayers, my husband and i found out we were expecting. everything changed when my water broke one evening far too early into my pregnancy. after going to the er and my obgyn and learning my pregnancy was not viable, i was given no options. despite being at high risk for infection. because of texas extreme laws, i was told i had to wait. which i did in the hospital, for days. my baby girl emery jade was born five days after my water broke. she lived only for a few minutes. but i hold my baby close to my heart as my husband, mother, and i sang her to sleep. ands when her heart stopped, we continued to embrace her and held her for hours as she lay lifeless. it was immediately after emery was born and the hospital discharged me that i felt severe pain.

we actually were not originally based out of houston. that was the space task group that was based at the langley research center. there was a decision made in 1961 to build a space center in houston. of course, it was. there was a lot of politics involved, a lot of city boosters, rice, university. it helped that lyndon johnson was vice president at the time. it definitely helped, although i would say albert thomas, who was chair of the appropriations committee, had a larger role than lyndon johnson did at the time, because, of course, he held the purse strings. and he was also an alumni from rice university. and so that had a huge impact. rice university ended up giving the federal government about a thousand acres of land to build the space center. so that had a huge influence as well, very much. now, you've mentioned oral histories a couple of times. what makes an effective oral history? i think preparation. we do a lot of prep before we do an oral history interview. we do not show up and say, hey, you worked at nasa. that's pretty co
