not only from my mother but my high school teacher, a history teacher, wayne ford, outside of houston, texasmr. ford was always a dapper dresser, came to school sharp, briefcase organized. he was very patient with me when i asked to make questions in the classroom and harassed him with questions after class. when i graduated from high school, he told me he was retiring soon and would be buying a drugstore in houston, texas, and i should come and visit him. i did not understand why he was buying a drugstore. he is not a pharmacist. but i thought i will come over. my best friend and i traveled to houston's this word to stanley's drugstore. when we walked in, i was stunned to see where x candles in the shape of men and women and body parts. oils, powders, and my former history teacher behind the counter waiting on a customer. my history teacher was a who do math -- hoodoo man, and i never knew it.
