i mean the houthis like you stated came in, in september of 2014. it was just a matter of time that they took control of everything. they surrounded ministries and took full control of the national media outlets in yemen. what we asaw was just a predictable outcome. to correct what you said earlier, they didn't force hadi and the government to resign, they chose to do so, they had no power in yemen anymore and the heuferghtshouthis had taken control of everything. they really just wanted to stay in the north end when they first took power and seemed as if they wanted to control their own end. but now they're pushing to control all of yemen. it was very clear from their speech today that they wanted yemen to stay as one country and there is no mention of federalism whatsoever and they have created a revolutionary committee that is going to be in charge of everything in yemen. >> wait a minute, so do you think president hadi stood a chance of surviving that he could have negotiated a power sharing arrangements with the houthis? >> no, what i'm saying

how have the houthis reacted? >> well they've demonstrated that they are not willing to - sorry, i'm getting a bit of feedback in my ear. they are not willing to accept any form of opposition. they essentially fired at protesters. from the university to know that one of the reasons is because of the security situation there, and the crack down as well. five journalists are detained yesterday, swiftly after the coup announcement was made. it is a precarious situation. aside from that there has been protests in the southern cities where the houthis are not present. places have seen demonstrations and in other places. these cities are wary that the houthis could, considering the significance of the southern cities and the fact that the ports - the ports of aden they are beat up not only by the security apparatus like the police but they are opposed to the coup and say they will not take orders from sanaa. but by popular committees set up in order to protect the houthi advancement. so very divisive situation here >>>

the area has been under the control of houthi fighters since october., the shipment is then said to have been transferred north to the houthi strong hold. let's now get more from jamal who joins us from the support city of aden. what more can you tell us about these reports i've russian weapons shipment? >> reporter: well, what we understand from sources who work at the port there, that the houthis who are in control of the ports have ordered the staff that were not loyal to them or were not their fighters not to approach the harbor as the shipments arrived on board the ukrainian vessel is what we have been told. we know for sure, for certain is that the airport was closed yesterday, monday. and that's where the reports then arose that the shipment was taken from the ports to the airport and then flown north to the strong hold of the houthis and is where it's understood their leader is based. this isn't the first time reports have emerged of some sort of surprise being sent to the houthis before there was a vessel on which contained fuel, iranian fuel,

they don't deal with the political office of the houthis. so why did the houthis take over? what happened, what went wrong and the national dialogue transition? so first of all we get the usual critiques about yemen's national dialogue that was led by the human. it was to be. it took too long. it was, you know, the members were 500 members, and five and 65 members but to be to take that a step further, the failure of the transitions actually because of the government that was created. so in 2011 it was decide that a national unity government that was going to be composed of different political parties. that government because it was composed of different political parties, they refuse to work with each other and i think each political branch was kind of secure their position on the ground. and had these governments didn't work for him because he was a new president he was put in place just for a transitional period of two years. and so previous to 2011 we had a yemeni government that acted as a mediator or a middleman between the international committee and the west and the

the houthi officials i talked to say that it was serious, and the main reason why the houthis did what they did is because of the opposition it was omar's way of dealing with negotiation. so as it is right now, the houthis are calling people back to dialogue but under their terms, under the negotiation, under their policy they refuse to go back against no declaration, so the opposition parties which is the whole country will have no other option other than to deal with the houthis, and coming apart from the government. >> and the houthi leadership says it's not a coup it's a revolution as they describe it. what is the atmosphere like in the capital. what are they telling you? >> the people know that the houthis are sidelining every party in the country. the polls are powerful. they are armed, and they are not the only arming in the country. they have people on the ground. if they are forced to resort to violence they'd do that. this would cows more tension. people are worried if violence takes place, we'll lose electricity, no food water. that's where the country will be chaotic. >> th
