beverly farmer is covering traffic but we begin with howard bernstein and today's forecast. hey, howard. >>> it's a foggy one certainly for the first part of the day. a dense fog advisory for just about everybody. southern maryland, the northern neck, calvert and st. mary's on the eastern shore not under the advisory but it goes out toward culpeper. many visibilities a quarter mile or less. we're certainly seeing quite a few areas like dulles at zero. gaithersburg a quarter mile. same in warrenton up to martinsburg and winchester. cumberland a half mile. getting reports up in boonsboro some dense fog as well. got to watch that. right now temps are down in the 30s and 40s so a chilly start but it looks like a better afternoon. here in washington, notice we've got some breaks clearly showing up now ahead of the sunrise which is happening in about 45 minutes. we'll see some sun later on for sure. 57 by noon. highs could be pushing 60 or even better with enough sun and it looks potentially 70'ish over the weekend. that would set some records. more on that coming up in a few minut

howard bernstein is in for topper shutt with the first alert weather. >> reporter: hey debra outside late this december, i'm comfortable in the 60s. now the records we were shooting for earlier today, 65 in baltimore, 69 in the district and 66 in dulles all fell as we would get up to degrees. and sitting with the 70s. and in the northern neck and the eastern tour. things have quieted down. tomorrow, christmas day in the upper 70s with a few showers. but you may see a little more in the way of showers and the isolated rumble of thunder. spotty showers in the upper 50s. we could have more record warmth sunday up to 74. i will tell you right now though, some cold lurking winter as they may not have begun, but it will begin with colder air on the way. they could be seen walking, running, riding their bikes in t-shirts and shorts. despite the warm temps, it still feels like christmas to them. this is great weather for us. >> reporter: it is weird. the family we spoke to visiting from india will be prepared for snow, but they would add it that they were not disappointed by the warmth. >>>

howard bernstein is tracking what's next. reporter: it's been a warm december. we're running 8 degrees above average for the month so far. looks like saturday will be a cold day relative to where we've been. had some clouds this morning. you can see how they've been lifting up to the north here. parts of western montgomery still dealing with cloud cover but a good deal of sunshine now and temperatures are responding. into the mid-50s in many areas. still 40s to the west where the cloud cover is thicker. sun and clouds for the afternoon. no problem this afternoon. then, as we get into tonight, clouds will thicken up. with luck, we get through the morning rush hour dry but rain will be breaking outment you request see even though -- you can see, even though temperatures are mid to low 50s, we'll have a lot of showers through the latter part of the afternoon. maybe by 5:00 this will start pulling away. it will be wet tomorrow and then that cold shot moves in saturday. i'll tell you how long it will be around but oldwife you a hint, i've got 60s -- a hint, i've got

meteorologist howard bernstein. what do you say. >> i think we'll do it one more time. on and then we'll change. today, we tied the record in baltimore. 68 degrees at national, a few degrees shy. warm spot, charlottesville with 28. a lot of areas into the 70s. normally, we should be in the mid- to upper 40s. tonight, i'm outside. here it is, december, no gloves no, hats, no heavy coats. temperatures in the 50s. a few spots in the upper 40s. haggerstown, a little cloudy up there. andrews at 59. we are not going to fall off a lot more than we are right now. probably in the mid-40s to low 50s but mostly cloudy skies, maybe a patch of fog. a little tough to see the meteor showers tonight. in the morning, we start with some patchy fog, low 50s. 65 by noon. on our way into the upper 60s and low 70s. forecasting high tomorrow of 71 degrees which would tie the record since 1889. baltimore's record high will fall. dulles of 71 in 1984, that will likely change. in about a week from now, maybe six day, you won't need those coats and the gloves and the hats and the scarves as well.
