host of fox news "mediabuzz" howard kurtz joins me right now. you used to work at "the washington post." so you have some special insight into all this. what are your sources telling you in terms of these 20 reporters? >> i think it is widely misreported because what bob woodward said, yes, the post would put 20 reporters to look at both candidates donald trump an hillary clinton. it is true the post is doing a book about trump which shows you something about the lucrative media marketplace. they have long series of doing endless series on candidates can. the post revealed gary hart changed his name from gary hart pens and lied about his age. i'm for all the journalism as long as evenly applied. trish: i'm sure there is a lot they could dig up on hillary clinton as well. you have got to vet all the candidates and that is part of a journalists job to do that. >> this is what people say they want media to do. many complain barack obama didn't get full media vetting in 2008. it is fascinating listen to trump attack bezos. he has done that before in

howard kurtz is a fox news media analyst, the host of "media buzz" on fox news channel.hanks for joining us. i was reading your article and it reminded me of sometimes i am out and a viewer will come up to me, somebody who doesn't like donald trump and i say you need to mentally prepare yourself for the idea that he might be the president. he has a chance of winning. they'll say, no, no, he definitely does not. pure denial because they dislike him so much. your article reminded me there are people like that in the media, but you say they are starting to come around? >> yeah. it's an interesting moment. i always get on my soap box and say polls are snapshots. they can be wrong and the polls will change 50 times between now and november. for so long most of the media and anti-trump republicans told us a trump nomination would be a debacle for the gop. it became conventional wisdom. here he is a couple of weeks after clinching. fox news poll shows him up three points. a very competitive race. that has changed the political conversation. i think some of the journalists and p

joining me now, the host of "media buzz" here on fox news, howard kurtz.s true, it's deeply troubling. the allegation from this former anonymous worker is if the news was trending and it had to do with mitt romney, rand paul, c pac, glenn beck, drudge report, things like that, if it was trending, pursuant to the algorithm, they would take it out of the trending column. and if news regarding things like black lives matter or syria was not trending, they would move it in. so they would actively manipulate the data. >> these allegations, megan, really strike at the heart of facebook as a neutral platform. to hear journalists were hired by facebook to fiddle with the formulas, not all of them, perhaps some with anti-conservative bias, it really amounts to cooking the digital books. if true. and this is a massive public company that depends on its users to post a lot of personal information. if it loses that trust, it's got a big problem. >> according to this whistleblower who's anonymous at this point, so we haven't been able to check this person's credibility

here to weigh in, howard kurtz, host host of "mediabuzz," a fox news analyst. a lot of people got it wrong, many, many, many, did not think donald trump could win the nomination but a lot of people kind of changed their tune along the way, wow, this is defying all the odds. those that hung into the very end, how do they get back that credibility? >> it will be a long climb. i don't use the phrase credibility gap lightly. all of organized journalism basically missed story, missed reasons for it. yes of course as trump piled up victory after victory, some said yeah i guess he could maybe win nomination. now many same people are saying donald trump can't win the fall or very difficult for him to win. they might be right but viewers and leaders have cause to be skeptical given how completely off they were during the crazy campaign year. melissa: is there evidence of that out there? is there evidence of the fact that viewers are wondering, who they can watch and trust? because we all watch it so closely. we know sort of how it evolved. howard, how do you engage what

howard kurtz is with us, "media buzz" host. e 'em some money, and they will report this iran nuke deal with the city -- the way we want hem the report it, the way we, the administration, want them to report it. am i being crass here? >> well, npr and the group insist that's not the case but, man, stuart, this thing does not pass the smell test. this group is called the plowshares fund, it's given npr $700,000 over the last decade. and this was a group that was identified by name by ben rhodes in that infamous new york times magazine profile as one of the groups that was part of the echo chamber the administration was using to sell that deal. and here they are taking that money specifically to report on u.s. and iranian nuclear programs. stuart: that would suggest to me that the objectivity of npr is in some doubt. would you go that far, howard? >> well, to be fair to npr, it says in a statement there's an editorial firewall between its funders and how it reports the news, plowshares it was not trying to influence. then why give
