and howard kurtz. david: quite a lineup today. the dow closing down 31 points right now as fear over delayeded tax cuts -- 371 points. as fear of tax cuts not taking hold. phil flynn, watching action in oil. oil, interest rates, gold particularly from the cme. lori rothman on the floor of the new york stock exchange. lori, who is getting hit the hardest? >> the trump trade is unwinding. it was a tough session but it was a real clear trade. industrials, technology, the financials, those were the sectors rising that the trump pro-growth economic agenda would dig in. there is a lot of concern that won't happen quickly because of events of last 24 hours. let me talk about the stock market and names that were impacted. if you look at dow component such as goldman sachs, apple, jpmorgan, boeing, 3m, again, companies that you could pull from those from sectors looking to benefit from the economic agenda. those stocks i just named accounted for half of the dow's decline with goldman sachs being blamed for one quarter of the dow's decline

. >> shannon: as we do howard kurtz joins us, the host of media buzz. howie, how do you quantify the impact on this business that roger ailes made? >> it's very difficult to put into words. i'm shell shocked myself with this news. i do want to say that obviously when roger ailes left fox news and forced out of fox news last summer amid all the sexual harassment allegations it was a sad ending to an incredible career. we need to keep the whole career and accomplishments he had in politics working for nixon and bush and entertainment working for giants like merv griffin and the media in building this network from scratch. i think it's important we keep that in perspective. >> bill: he hired you. just reflect on that in the following way. the whole motto and slogan of fair and balanced, what roger would tell his staff is fair and balanced means you do not exclude any opinions. it was his belief that a lot throughout the media had excluded opinions and that was part of the reason for the founding of the fox news channel. he brings you on board to be a watch

howard kurtz joins us now. what say you here?cause this is the fifth wave of stories that i read about sean spicer is going to be fire and walk the plank, that compares to the stories of reince priebus is getting the boot. it's clear that the president is not happy with communications team and could well be that he decides to keep spicer as secretary and have one else do briefings. i don't think this is spicer's fault, sean spicer had one hour notice, not a lot of time to roll a big communication's plan. stuart: very difficult to be the spokesperson for president trump who tweets with no bounds. however, i would like to move to the likelihood that there's not going to be a press briefing every day. what do you -- what does the media guy make of that? >> well, i suppose you could say that would be a relief since the president had been saying he will get rid of the briefings altogether. but i think if they don't -- i think they should do it several times a week, not just because journalists feel like we need to ask tough questions

attorney andrew mccarthy howard kurtz and pete hegseth. ed: the dow ending down for the day but up for the month. not too bad. winners. >> we came off the low of the day almost 90 points coming up in consecutive monthly gains for the dow and s&p. the nasdaq seven months in a row and we haven't seen that in some time. that's the good news ultimately. we see the dow came this month just about 131% and the nasdaq up 2.4% the s&p 5001.1%. we look at the percentage gainers on the dow. here are some of the other names mcdonalds up to 8% coca-cola apple walmart were some of the other big names that really help the dow a long and then we'd talk about technology hey amazon cross the 1000-dollar mark yesterday. everybody has been waiting for that since 1997. ipo opened at 1000 at 7.5% alphabet up 6.7% apple 6.3% and nvidia 30%, coach. there were a lot of names that did well while the indices gained. that's pretty great for anybody who's investing. not too bad. ed: friday we have the jobs numbers of that will affect the market dramatically as well. n
