the past month, the number of recruits that they have receives has been incredible and in fact they hpt been able to process them quickly enough as they come forward. but i think we also need to understand that these recruits, as eager and energetic aj they may be, have some issues obviously, theÑi - the biggest which is the late razzy rate. it's about 44 percent literacy rate. the percentage of those that are literate that are actually going to train is even lower. and then where we were in the south, the different dynamic. this is where the center of the activity is right now. this is where we're seeing more of the taliban presence and unfortunately we don't have as many police forces coming from the south as we do from the north, so there's a lot of dynamics that are at play that make it more difficult. but it was mentioned by senator crapo about the morale of the % american forces that are there. the morale of the civilian forces, those within the u.s., they, it's all very positive and strong. but we also saw on the afghan side, as we talked about and to the tribal leaders we met w
