we need to hear from hp. you can only guess.e can guess hp wants to add on -- their network business has struggled, down 11% annually. the enterprise wi-fi is hot. huge growth. hp would like to make a bigger footprint in that business to challenge, say cisco, which does a lot of work in enterprise wi-fi. the idea is that if they see the growth moving in that direction, then it doesn't matter if they don't make money now if they make money in the future. aruba may be a simple integration. this may be a good first acquisition for hp to make post-turnaround because it is digestible and it is not too big. >> you look at stock compensation it is trading 18 times earnings. it is high for the group but not crazy high. they have a services business. you wonder if this is the kind of thing where they could add to aruba's potential because they have so many feet on the streets. >> that is possible. there is no reason aruba ends hp's acquisition surge. meg whitman say we are prepared to do acquisitions. they could make another acquisition

these aren't hp customers. they have been selling that boosting free cash flow but are they running out of those tricks to boost free cash flow? >> they have extended payment to these customers. now it is more of a working capital and cash convergence cycle play. they can only take that so far to your point. that 10-12 day range is as far as they can take it. we have seen very good cash management over the last couple of years, and there has been a little bit of a step back. >> if you look at the way they have boosted that by selling receivables, maybe i am conspiracy there is. i look for the bonus pay based on free cash flow percentage of earnings. then they are selling the receivables. in my crazy to look at the profit motive? >> not at all. you can only do that for a certain amount of time. the company was obviously overly enthusiastic when they gave that $6.5 billion guidance raft they had a separate the companies. they should have been more forthright. people were caught offguard by that. >> we can talk ab

the flight this matters a lot to hp -- stuff like this matters a lot to hp. cory: will we get a sense of how they will do as to businesses separately echoed or will they wait -- separately? or will they wait until the deal is done? >> i think we will get into the end of the year be went -- the end of the year when the deal becomes a reality. thus far, the revenue growth picture has been very lackluster on the enterprise side. hp income is doing nicely on the other hand. the pc business is the one that is carrying topline growth for the company. cory: and specifically, we've seen 12 of the last 13 quarters of sales decline. but in terms of gap profitability, that is also going down a lot for this company. what are we supposed to look at? are we just to ignore the topline company -- the topline numbers? the call that has gone from $8 billion a quarter down $5 billion from last year that is a much less profitable business and a smaller business. >> the hardware business, particularly in enterprise, is commoditizing more rapidly with companies like hp, dell, and

this was not a good quarter for hp. two areas that you would expect to see growth, networking and software, didn't grow. those are huge enterprise businesses where hp does not have a lot of share. you expect them to gain share in the environment like this. seeing growth in consumer pcs and industry standard servers nobody thinks the future is there, there's a huge amount of running room or margin to be gained there. that's troublesome. when you see them having the currency excuses, the best companies that performed this earning season didn't make the currency excuses. apple and cisco both come to mind, both in the consumer side and the enterprise side. i think when you see these companies, this company split up into hp inc and hp enterprises it's an open question, which one has the opportunity even to be the growth company and that's become less clear from this quarter. >> this currency thing is amazing. personally i'm seeing it. when i began in the summer one u.s. dollar got me 0.58 british pound sterlings now i'm gett

, hp can be fixed? >> i would argue that hp and yahoo! are not really technology companies at all. they were technology companies in the 1970's and 1980's with hp, and in the 1990's with yahoo! these were technology companies, now they are against technology. >> even though they are not technology companies, can yahoo! and hp be fixed? >> there are things we can do to streamline them. it is a mistake for them to radically try to reinvent themselves and become technology companies once again. >> you mention marissa mayer, what do you think her chances are of turning things around? >> she is by far the best ceo it has had in a decade. she should not be evaluated on whether she invents something new. that is setting her up for failure. the existing businesses are big, and if you can improve those and make those work, that is fantastic. >> other than what you have written in this book, what are some things you believe that very few people agree with you on? >> an issue i have spoken about is this idea that college education has become something of a bubble. a trillion dollars of studen

i think very good execution for hp. >> yeah.hough not particularly tough trends globally in terms of the economy, meg. i would think here in the states and the other countries in which you operate, the economy at least, even in europe perhaps, starting to see some signs of growth. true? >> listen if you look at our revenue and constant currency in europe, looks pretty good. look at the number of units, whether it's our industry standard servers or pcs or whatever quite good. pcs up 9% in units but 3% in currency as reported in constant currency, because of the headwinds. so we're seeing bright spots in europe. seeing the u.s. is recovering. but you've got challenges still in japan in the economy, challenges, big challenges in russia parts of eastern europe. so it's a mixed bag. and then of course over the whole thing is currency. but listen we're on track, we are continuing to invest in innovation. we've got more innovation coming in the second half of the year. our gen 9 server has been incredibly well received. our new line of

from hp to ebay. why is that happening? are we going to see more of it?> i think there are a lot of different reasons why that is happening. one may be the companies have become too big, unmanageable and you want them to be smaller units. smaller units are easier to manage, so an organization like hp, they will have one for each and that will be a great strategy for them. i think the same thing is a great strategy for ebay. probably a lot of other companies will follow that. >> will oracle follow? is oracle one of those companies? >> i think that with oracle, that is difficult. number one, the distribution will be the same no matter what. oracle has to innovate at a higher rate. that's what we've not seen oracle do in the last decade. >> salesforce has been a big acquirer. how do you continue to buy companies without losing focus or getting bloated? >> acquisitions are hard no matter who you are. i can tell you firsthand after doing 25 acquisitions over the last five years, acquisitions are hard. but you can transform your company through acquisitions. th
