we're working to find homes for chronically-homeless veterans who have a hud voucher. specifically the goal is to find housing for 50 veterans and 100 days. to accomplish this, we need owners and lamb motor -- and landlords to join our efforts. we know we have a long way to go before we can call this effort a success. it requires sustained engagement by the community. as for the housing choice voucher program, also called section 8, rent paid to landlords is comparable to rent received on the open market. i wanted knowledge the heavy lifting in the homes for heroes program is being done by the va case workers and the staff at the san francisco housing authority. the administration has made a commitment to in veteran homelessness by 2015. we'd look forward to working with local communities to achieve that goal. i would like to thank community partners for that dedication to continue making homes for heroes of best practice to eliminate homelessness for veterans. our veterans deserve nothing less. to 100 days has already begun. there is only 70 days to go. thank you very

the hud budget over the next years has been you know huge cutbacks in the hud 202 program, and the programsere each one of them are looking at potentially the low income housing tax credit program as being the solution for it. while they haven't increased the allocation of the tax credits out there, so it's not a case of more credits being available to do more housing, so we have got increased numbers of project sponsors from everything from supportive housing under the program 202 developers to what would be your mainstream tax credit developers all looking for the same credits, and what we have seen sort of in the competition for those credits at the state levels have been competitions of 3-1 to the credits becoming 5-1 or six to one and it's not a case of that many properties that are being sponsored having flaws in them. they are all good properties and all needed, but again competing for this dwindling resource under the tax probe and that is supposed to be a solution to being able to provide affordable housing we have. so again, what we have seen i think, which is encouraging, is a la

hud has housing in their name. we have worked closely.omething immediately. we work hand in hand. with the tennessee floods a couple of years ago, we were looking at houses lost. a lot of people were being displaced. our great partners from hud got in there immediately with us. we were able to move people from one section 8 housing to another. they never had to go into fema housing. they did not have to move from place to place or program to program. we are able to move them into what would be their permanent homes. moving forward by that and focusing on what needs to be done as we're looking at a housing and challenges as we move forward. next we have infrastructure systems. i am not sure if anyone was able to join us from the corps of engineers. great. it is great to see you. çwe know the corps of engineers goes around the world building things and looking at roads systems, utility systems. it is not just the corps of engineers. it is looking at things we need to reconstruct. how will we do that? how do you wanted to come back? natural

hud has interventions also. there is no single solutions cahal. one of the things that does matter i have seen between the hud and the the a what i have seen has been phenomenal with great man gauge meant of this housing program reignited as a program thinks to senator murray and i had us chance by a half helped to create hud/bash trying to solve homelessness. it was a fantastic success. there are few examples i have never seen where two agencies work together well to code mr. a single program. it is not easy to do. one entity may not be good everything. but today to there are 40,000 vouchers and it makes a huge difference because the vast majority goes to those who are chronically homeless for extended period of time and without a permanent solution will never get off the street and cost exorbitant amount of funds. it cost about $50,000 to do nothing because they bounce around from hospitals and jails then they are still out there so the country incurs exorbitant cost to lead to the failure continue as opposed to providing a real solution to end

so thankful we have a city team, who everybody has been talking about keeping our collaboration with hud has been outstanding and incredible and the pha has been remarkable about the things they have been able to do and finish. bevin dufty, thank you very much for taking this from the san francisco boot camp and making sure this happens. to our landlords, thank you very much. it is so important to have those landlords, and we could use more. and have so many homeless veterans to come to this city. it is very important to make sure they are housed. our shelter system. i can say enough about that, joyce. they are the first line in defense in getting those veterans of the street and getting them housed. our community partners. i have been working with them for 20 years. for me coming it is so important to have that community partnership. they have been so instrumental in getting them housed. clothes, jobs, training. it has been an incredible thing to have this city team working together and collaborating to end homelessness. and we will do it. so, thank you very much. i appreciate it.
