in hastings on hudson, they're trying something new. birth control. >> i think it's a really good idea. and it is humane. we don't want to see deer being shot. >> reporter: this is a picture of scientists injecting an immuno contraception vaccine into a doe back in february. the village of hastings on hudson teamed up with the humane society of united states and tufts university to find female deer, capture them, a necessary take size them and give them the vaccine. each is then ear tagged and monitored to see if it had you any fawns. the goal is to immunize 50 to 60 and reduce the population. >> it really is a danger especially on the sawmill. people flying down and people can get killed. all right and keeping the deer away isn't cheap for residents. you'll see high deer fences guarding just about every house and they can cost as much as $0,000. >> basically for the lyme disease. >> reporter: this fence was put up so the children could play outside without worrying about deer ticks and lyme disease. other homeowners want to keep the de
